We spent the morning at the Toulouse Lautrec exhibition and the afternoon wandering through the rest of the gallery.
The collection is outstanding - some beautiful pieces from well know masters as well as local collections.
This is a lovely way to spend a day in Canberra. Well laid out, well presented, and a pleasure to walk through. Highly recommended.

We have enjoyed this gallery on several visits, and it keeps getting better. This special exhibition, with so many paintings and posters from collections in at least 5 countries, was delightful. The audio-guides were well worth the modest charge. We find that a couple of hours at a time is as much as we can manage, so we returned next day to wander around the rest of the gallery.
One thing we had hoped, when we lost our Adelaide Gallery Director to Canberra some years ago, was that the National Gallery might one day have a restaurant approaching the high standard of Adelaide's. It hasn't happened; the run-of-the-mill food sitting in display-cases is overpriced, and the layout of the serving-space obviously makes it difficult for the staff to deal with the queues of patrons. The special tea-and-cakes area that has been provided in association with the Toulouse Lautrec exhibition, however, is certainly a cut above the routine eatery.

Always good.
Nolan's Ned Kelly room - very special, telling the Ned Kelly story so well.
The Aboriginal rooms are respectful and up-lifting.
Special exhibitions like the recent Toulouse Lautrec - Brilliant.

Loved the Australian Art section-quite a good selection of our most famous artists. Gardens are lovely and staff very helpful.
