We got a package on Wotif for $159 including upgrade to 1bdr suite, free parking (normally $12 a day), and buffet breakfast. We didnt find the parking that bad as we have a small car, but admitttedly, the spaces are tight. We stayed on a Saturday night and went out for dinner, got back at 9pm and the carpark wasnt even half full so we didnt need to park on the street as others have previously mentioned.
I did notice the water-marked carpet in the hallway (we stayed on Level 1) but the room was clean (aside from a few dirty marks on the 1-seater lounge chair). There was a bit of road noise but not so bad as to ruin your stay (our room was on the side of the building)
My partner and I had an awful sleep as the bed was VERY hard..felt like we were sleeping on floorboards so we left with sore lower backs.
The buffet breakfast consists of sausages, scrambled eggs, baked beans, hash browns, bacon, cereal, yoghurt, fresh fruit, juices, coffee/tea and a few other things which is sufficient but i dont think we would've had breaskfast there if it wasnt part of the package we paid for.
Overall, we had a pleasant stay, although might try somewhere else next time for a more comfy bed

I could forgive the dated decor if the place was clean! Stains all over the carpets, dirty windows and balcony, pillow cases that don't even cover the stained pillows, piles of dust underneath the sofa/fold out bed and pills on the floor from someone else's stay! Just the kind of floor that we want our toddler crawling over!

The dryer in the room was broken, and service was about average. Room service dinner and breakfast was poor; items missing from the orders, and some of the food looked microwaved.

The pool is probably the saddest excuse I've seen for a pool; stuck in the basement, paint peeling, rusting. It's advertised as a indoor heated pool - in fact it was colder than the pool at the Clifton, and their's is outdoors!

Disappointing, we'll go back the the Clifton next time.

Booked as a Masterpieces from Paris packaged rate through the Mantra website. Overall stay is pleasant - room is basic & clean, hotel buffet breakfast is standard. However, the only problem is that due the busy season, the onsite parking spaces are limited, so if you return after 8pm on a Saturday night, your bound to lose your parking spot.

I stayed in a one bedroom apartment for two weeks and would definitely not stay at the Mantra again, nor recommend it. The rooms need refurbishment, the carpets are stained, the bathroom grout was mouldy and the non-smoking apartment smelt of stale cigarette smoke. I placed a room service order through Reception one evening and when I tried to order a drink with my meal, was told to go and get it out of the minibar instead. The rooms on the front of the hotel are very noisy, with limited blocking of the traffic noise off Northbourne Avenue. The gym is small and dank, and the pool is an after thought in the basement.

The Mantra is located on Northbourne Avenue which is the main street through the city centre.
We stayed a week-end and even though our bedroom was overlooking the side street, it was very noisy at night. So, you could not open the windows to let some fresh air in.

The lounge room was spacious enough and comprised a double sofa bed(ok for a child but not comfortable enough for a couple), a dining table , tv.

The kitchenette seemed well equipped but we went out for diner or had room service so didn't use the appiances.

The bedroom is small but the bed was comfortable although a doona instead of sheets+ blankets would have been nice.

The bathroom is very basic and accommodates the washing machine + dryer.

The staff was very efficient and friendly. Checking in and out was easy. The car park is secure .

I would recommend this hotel if you are going to stay midweek .

FIRE ALARM in the middle of the night again
Agree with so many of the other reviews. Good value but an ageing hotel trying to look younger. They apparently had the fire alarm go off in the middle of the night last week and it hapened again a 2:40 am last night. Asking for a refund!

My daughter and I flew to Canberra for the Masterpieces from Paris exhibit- which was delightful despite very long hours of queuing. The hotel was clean, average facilities not much charm from staff but none the less, ok? Buffet breakfast was basic, simple not very imaginative but coffee was so weak and lukewarm, we gave it a miss and used kettle in room. Parking availability was hit and miss- last night we had to park in the street at the back of hotel-not appreciated in a 4 star hotel.But...... the strangest incident was the fire alarm going off twice at 1-2 am in the morning and no explanation by staff. Everyone was wandering out in the corridor in night attire asking each other what we should do? Some guest got dressed and headed off down the fire escape! I rang reception and was told by a harassed young man that it was a false alarm. My daughter then called out to everyone on our floor that it was a false alarm. The next morning no staff mentioned it...even on checkout. A notice could have been put in the lifts to apologise for the inconvience or at least at an explanation. I really would hate to be there in a real fire situation as it was handled so badly.
