Mantra was quite unexpectedly pleasant. Thought it would be expensive, but it wasn't at all. Stayed in queenbed apartment, it had all the amenties a person can need. Clean, nice cozy interiors. And over looking balcony to the northbourne ave. We also had a buffet breakfast included with our room and it was a good thing too. I found it very charming, would definitely go back.

P.s. where you stay in Canberra make sure you get up early in the morning to have look at the hot air balloons in the Canberra sky. Its a must see sight that is unless you are in one of the balloons.

Spent 3 nights in February 2009 at Mantra (formerly Saville) in Canberra on business.

Room was fantastic - 3 room suite (bed/bath/kit/lounge) rooms were large with large balcony and new washer and dryer in laundry. Excellent air-con, comfortable bed and super black-out curtains. Room was very well sound-proofed. Hotel is well located, close to Civic but without the night noise of the Casino or Clubs. Hotel's buffet style breakfast included large variety of fresh delectable foods.

Front desk staff were awesome. They were professional, cheerful, sensible and helpful. They went out of their way to assist during my short stay.

I will stay at Mantra for all upcoming trips to Canberra.

Booked on wotif hot deal for 1 bedroom apartment upgrade with full breakfast for $159 saturday night. Found reception charming. On the 1st floor, were alarmed to see dreadful watermark stain all over carpet in hallway - perhaps water sprinklers had flooded floor. Found apartment undamaged with fresh carpet, modern furnishings, clean and roomy bathroom. Ordered room service pizza- expected cardboard but they were delicious - order the italian. Situated close to Civic, only a $10 cab ride to Canberra Theatre. We actually strolled back later in evening. Breakfast was extremely busy. Think kitchen was overwhelmed by the volume of people all arriving at the same time - 9am. Had to wait for hot food but no real problem. Just wish they had grilled tomato or mushrooms instead of baked beans to accompany bacon/egg/sausages. Will stay again.

Stayed here in in late Sept 2008 in order to visit Floriade. Booked via wotif. Arrived late on Friday night. Check in were not very helpful. It seemed like they were doing us a favour. The parking is a huge problem, ie, there is very very limited undercover parking. Luckily we got a spot.

In spite of requesting a high level room we got a 3rd floor room facing south, looking into the wall of the adjacent building. We stayed in a one bedroom. The room itself was old, and seriously feeling its age. Strange late nineties furnishings and dirty, stained carpets. Depressing light fixtures. General cleanliness poor. Bathroom OK.

Breakfast was included in the tariff, and it was good. Probably the best thing about the place.

Overall, would not recommend staying here.

Booked at a corporate rate, arrived alone and stayed one night. Hadn't been to the Mantra as such before, but on arrival recognised it as the former Saville Park Suites. 10 out of 10 to the Mantra for not pretending they're suites any more. They're hotel rooms.

Reception very efficient and pleasant, two people at the desk when I arrived about 8.15 pm. Enquired whether the (empty) bar was open and was promised it was till 9 pm. Returned about 8.35 to find the chef chucking a paddy at the waitress. Quite a scene. Acted like nothing was wrong and asked waitress if they were still open - told no but I could have a drink in my room. Beaudy, that's so sociable.

Unfortunately I have seen rather too much of this sort of prima donna behaviour in Canberra hotels, which seem to attract staff who are repelled by the idea of working in the hospitality industry. However when I (was) turned away from the contretemps in the Bar I saw the looks on the receptionists' faces. Their horror indicated that this sort of behaviour was unusual for the Mantra.

Rang room service and ordered a glass of white wine, had two delivered. One was allegedly the wrong white poured by mistake, perhaps by the waitress who was the rather shaken recipient of the chef's paddy. Perhaps this was some sort of consolation prize. Didn't really fancy two consecutive glasses of wine but drank 'em both - the whole experience was a bit Fawlty Towers - and went to sleep.

Checked out next morning and had breakfast on the way to my meeting, at Ralph's great little coffee shop in a mall off London Circuit. Unfortunately I can't remember its name or the name of the mall, so sorry Ralph, I can't give you much of a plug. Maybe you'd like to be chef at the Mantra!

Given the bizarre experience I agonised over the rating and decided to mark 'em up rather than down, because it was only one staff member carrying on, he wasn't carrying on at me, everyone else was very pleasant, I couldn't fault the room, they didn't pretend it was a suite, the price was right, and in an odd way they made it up. Assuming the price is right for you too, by all means stay there.
