This is a 4.5 star Hotel but after staying there the past few nights I would give it a 3.5star when you compare to other Hotels in Canberra. The rooms were modernised last year. They are still on the small side and clean and comfortable. The exterior of the building still looks tired.

The Room was spotless except for the blocked sink and the girl on Reception came up within 5 minutes white gloves at hand and unblocked for me. The water pressure in the bathroom and shower is shockingggggg. I hate it when the water saver shower is a trickle. The soap and shampoo is a high standard. However, the towels are basic small towels. Should be plush for a 4.5 star Hotel.

The staff on the other hand were excellent and extremely friendly which I could not fault. The Breakfast buffet was great and had a great selection. The Room Service was quick and of a high standard. Very Central location which was handy.

Bedroom was clean and tidy but I assumed there would be a hair dryer, but there wasn't. The hotel is appointed nicely and it is a short 10mjn walk to the city. Had dinner in the restaurant downstairs and the meal was lovely, the wait staff were attentive. This was not my experience the next evening at the bar though. I was ignored by both bartenders even though I politely asked for a drink twice and was standing in front of them with no other people at the bar. It wasn't until my colleague came to the bar and the bartender still served her first. I don't think I'd stay here again.

This hotel is well located for the business traveller, a short taxi trip to the airport and within close proximity to Canberra's business hub. Hotel reception staff were very friendly and most obliging when I needed to process airline booking documentation. The ground floor restaurant and island bar are very popular and offer interesting italian fare, bar prices are somewhat high - the buffet breakfast is very good value offering a wide choice.

The guest room was very comfortable and appeared to have been recently refurbished - my room did not have a room safe or a bedside telephone but was very pleasant for a three night stay.

I stayed at this hotel in October for a four day conference, and although not expecting much was pleasantly surprised by the service and amenities. The lakeside is a bit of a misnomer; yes you can see the lake from there, but it is hardly lapping at the door. A ten minute taxi ride from the airport, and well placed to walk to the restaurant district of Canberra, the hotel also has a few very nice cafes nearby which provide excellent coffee and a good breakfast. I say this because the hotel breakfast was a bit on the average side. This was made up for by a magnificent egg and bacon bap in a cafe some 100 metres away from the rear entrance. Canberra has certainly changed (or rather evolved) since I was last there, with a good variety of pubs and restaurants serving a wide variety of quality food. Beware the drink prices though, as some pubs seem to think that a swanky name means you can charge triple for the same drink down the street. The town still closes too early (us Melbournites have grown accustomed to late night everything), but it is safe to wander the streets and there seems to be an abundance of police in the drinking district.
The hotel bedroom was adequate, with a good comfortable queen size bed and a large screen plasma. The bathroom was clean and adequate, with a good selection of soft towels and toiletries. There was also tea/coffee making facilities and an ironing board for the inevitable removal of creases from crushed clothing straight out of the luggage. The conference facilities are excellent, all on one floor and with a variety of rooms for lectures and displays. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful, and having misplaced my phone were only too happy to help locate it. There was also no trouble arranging a taxi to the airport at short notice to fly out at the end of the conference.
Although probably not my ideal holiday hotel (or town) I would highly recommend the Rydges Lakeside as a solid place fro business when in Canberra.

Modern room with some swish decor. But I was awoken in the morning by what I thought was the metro - except that Canberra doesn't yet have a metro - turns out it was the elevator, that sounded like a train in my room. Another little gripe is that they have a notice in the bathroom about caring for the environment - but no matter how carefully I rehung the towels, they were always removed every day - so why not also remove the signs and stop pretending to be green?

Stayed for four nights in October for a conference ANU, short walk to venue, excellent bar. Beds are AMAZING. Have stayed here twice previously, last time however was in 2007, would definitely say this is my preferred venue for Canberra. Close to Floriade too.

I stayed here pre-renovations and vowed I'd never return - horrible room for over $300 a night. I needed to be in Canberra close to where the hotel was and after reading new reviews on Trip Advisory, gave it another go. Much, much better. Rooms are good, room service comes quickly and the food is good. The breakfast is fine, and staff very friendly. However, I walked into the room and caught a waft of that cigarette smoke odour - weird. Seems to disappear so didn't worry about it.

The next morning, I went out on the balcony to get some air, and there in the corner was a full ashtray of cigarette butts. I always think it's kind of pathetic that smokers do things like this - break the rules and ruin someone else's enjoyment of the room, and then leave the evidence behind? Very selfish behaviour. Not the hotel's fault, but housekeeping might want to check the balconies from now on too :)

I'd be happy to stay here again.
