We got a getaway special at this hotel,it was fabulous. the staff were great and very gracious and helpful when they managed to scratch our rental car. They refunded the parking fees and contacted the rental car company. The room was clean and comfortable and a great location.The breakfast was good.

The Novotel Canberra does alot o.k but then lets itself down in few areas.

Firstly the good: Big comfortable room and bed - stayed in King room so always enjoy a big bed to myself.
Nice size TV in front of the bed.
Pool/gym/spa - nice setting at the gym and pool.
Check in/out quick and easy.

Now the bad: A huge room with very little storage/cupboards. O.k so it is a business hotel so they expect people not to have a lot of luggage but the only storage there was was a warddrobe with hanging space - there was no drawers despite there being plenty of room for them.

Toilet had the usual problem I find in hotels of not refilling - a simple matter of lifting the top and playing with the plunger to get it to refill. Why can't hotels install and maintain good toilets?

On the 3rd night the spa did not operate - just when I was needing one :(

Also on the 3rd night they must have had a problem with the fire doors. I guess when they put a sign on the door saying "Fire door do not obstruct" it doesn't mean that the hotel can't put towels to jam them open. I think the fire department may have had a problem with this - and yes i have the photos to prove they did it.

Did not eat in the hotel so cannot comment on food.

Carparking has been covered by many other reviewers - tight carpark and not having your car at your own access is just not good.

Overall a comfortable stay in the very heart of the city

Thank you for your suggestion regarding storage space. Our rooms feature varying levels of storage space in order to suit most tastes, so please feel free to check with Reception on arrival that you are allocated a suitable room.

I'm sorry to read of the issue you had with your toilet, but am confident our staff could have rectified this if reprted to our 24 hour Reception desk.

Thank you also for mentioning the issue with the fire door you witnessed. I am aware of the situation you are referring to and I can assure you that the fire system was undergoing maintenance at the time, with maintenance staff on the premises.

These staff enact additional fire safety procedures to ensure that guest saferty is not compromised whilst their work is undertaken.

Well, we weren't expecting much at the Novotel after the reviews here and from some of our friends. We just needed an overnight stay and didn't feel like paying over $400 for a room at the Crowne Plaza, so we booked here at the last minute for only $160. Nervously we drove over to the Novotel. It really is in an excellent location, aside from anything else. Parking is $15 but given how cheap the room was we didn't care. Check in was very quick and then up we went to a (relatively speaking) huge room on the third floor. Everything was clean, neat in good working order. The bathroom was sparking new and fabulous. We kicked off our shoes and watched a movie on the king size bed and had a good night's sleep. The Novotel is in the city but the windows have double glazing and we could barely hear a thing. In the morning we shunned the hotel breakfast and went for a short walk into Civic to find a good cafe. I never thought I'd say this after some of my other experiences at Novotels but I would stay here again.

My friend and I stayed in a level 2 room with a proper ensuite and twin Queen side beds.
The pool and gym facilities were very handy and clean.
Room was fortunately ready at 12pm prior to normal check-in time of 2pm so they let us check in early.
Free 20min internet for guests is a bonus.
Included buffet breakfast in hotel restaurant which was a big spread of hot and cold food.
Terrific location - close to the airport bus shuttle and close to shops and cafes.

A lot to be said about the car park facilities. Best you drive a small car. Rooms were fantastic on the other hand. Very clean and serviced well. Not much interaction from the staff, however in saying that, they were friendly when we did cross paths. We had to trolley our own luggage to our room. Would suit anyone who is in Canberra for business.

Our car park facility does make full use of the space available, but we do have spaces to suit all sizes of vehicle, including large 4WDs. Please let Concierge or Reception k now if you ever have any difficulty finding a suitable space.

Poor service. We waited for over an hour for dinner, despite the fact that we had a 9 year old child with us.
Three items were stolen from my bag and one small torch from the room. This was only realised when I returned home. I contacted the Hotel, but was told nothing could be done. The housemaids denied taking the items. One ipod, one set of keys in an Oroton keyring, one small leather purse with 6 USB sticks in it. I certainly will not be recommending any one stay at the Novotel in Canberra.
I have stayed in Hotels all over the world andhave never had anything stolen. Very disappointing to have it happen in our Captial City!

I am aware of the situation you refer to, which was not reported until after your stay.

Nonetheless, senior members of our staff conducted a full and thorough search of your room, and can find no trace of any belongings you mentioned.

Novotel Canberra has an elaborate and secure Lost Property procedure, with which items are located and returned to guests each day, at considerable cost to the hotel.

If there had been any belongings left in your room, the same procedure would have been applied.

Novotel Canberra welcomes any furher investigation into the matter.
