We stay here occasionally, love the spacious rooms and the rain shower is fantastic!, A little pricey though but location and comfort of rooms makes it worth it. Staff are always helpful and gym, pool and sauna are really great.

We arrived about midday and room was ready (upgrade to king exec. room). Pass to Lautrec exhibition was ready for us. Staff were pleasant and helpful and car was parked in secure undercover area in the basement. We had problem sleeping due to a party in room nextdoor and my wife complained when it had not stopped after 1130pm. Staff attended to this problem but considerable noise outside our room when party was breaking up. Next some 'boom-boom' noise until 5am from discos across the road.
Breakfast Sunday morning was very good (but no cheese). We were told to hand our room keycards to the garage attendant but there was no such person on duty requiring a return to reception to get car keys - meanwhile the car was found to be unlocked in the garage but fortunately nothing was missing.

My first impression of the Canberra Novotel is its ordeal of a carpark! Ridiculously small carparking spaces with many being roped off or reserved for later in the night, forcing you into an already packed claustrophobic areas. For a big car such as the Falcon I drive, more than once I thought a scrape was inevitable AND it's $18 a night! Parking attendents are available between 8-10am and 3-5pm (approximately)

Staff are very friendly though at times the front desk appears to be under the pump, perhaps they need a few more front of house at check-out times. Location is very good, being on Northbourne Avenue a short skip from the big bus stop of central Canberra and surrounded by plenty of restaurants (including One, the in-house restaurant, seperate review to follow) and not too far from Parliament House, the National Museum etc.

The room (Standard Twin) was large, but quite long and skinny. Beds were comfortable and there was a good selection of pillows on the beds to chose from. The twin room was a little tight when it came to manouvering the chair into a good position to watch the news at night (a bit tight between the beds) which was a function of the shape of the room.

A special mention of the shower needs to be made as it had, by far, the strongest water pressure of any hotel I've yet stayed in. It was a proper shower (not over bath) and was a welcome relief my first night in at midnight.

Breakfast was typical Accor standard (reasonable but expensive at $30) and although I went for the full buffet the first day, I'd recommend just the continental+bakery option ($22) as the fruit and cereals (including dedicated organic section) are more than filling and can be topped off with a danish (or 3) with a reasonable coffee from the automated espresso machine.

I have seen these rooms advertised exceptionally cheaply (less than $100AUD) and that would represent exceptional value for money, typical prices seem to be closer to $200/night which is middle ground for Canberra (an expensive town), the only thing that puts me off booking here is the carpark (if I was in my own car again, rather than an itty bitty city car rental)
