“Product fine, but what about the service?”
Reviewed July 28, 2009

A pretty good product in reasonable condition with spa bath, kitchen, and seperate bedroom. Cleanliness was below par - thick dust everywhere - under tables, desk, corners etc but I've seen worse...stayed a few days and they forgot to service the room on one day - when informed they did offer for the porter to come and service, but too late by then...front desk service really non existent - lots of chit chat between the staff but no attention to guests or guest needs - car parking was good - take care if you are sensitive to noise as late evening/night traffic from the McDonalds below could be an issue - the +ve about this was the ability to pick up the McD's free Wifi access from the rooms so if you only have a few emails or light surfing to do you can save some money on the in house system... Overall I would consider staying again as was out most of the time so the lack of service on the whole was not an issue - however I would be concerned how any problem would be handled based on my observations....

Please understand, I am not a fussy person and I usually let things slide, but this was something I couldn't let slide. We were on the top floor in a 2 bedroom unit. The air was stale, the heater didnt work, the TV had terrible reception, the shower had traces of mould, the shower floor was sticky, the lighting was terrible and to top it off my wife got bed bugs from the sheets which suprised us as the sheets looked clean. The only positive was the laughter we got from the 15y/o fax machine in the room. How retro...a fax machine!

This place is perfect for the weekend. We got a 2 bedroom unit for $162.00 between four people so it was great value. Its in a great location, walking distance to the many bars and cafes. The 24 hour MCDonalds under the building is great after a big night out.
Will most likely stay here again next year.

I stayed at the James Court for one night on business. I booked off the web site and got a very good deal on a 1 bed apartment. It was on the 1st floor (out of 7) but at that price I wasn't complaining.

There is nothing actually wrong with the James Court as its location is very convenient and the rooms are comfortable. It is on a busy intersection and depending on where your room is (it is huge hotel with rooms in all sorts of unusual places) you might get traffic (or McDonald's) noise. This was a first for me, the Hotel restaurant is a 24 hours McDonald's

The staff are robotically efficient but there is an underlying sense of loathing they might have for the guests. So my room was ready, my taxi turned up on time, my bill was correct, just don't expect any kind of warmth from them - maybe it's some kind of Toga Hospitality punishment detail.

So I'll definitely be returning to the James Court, one of the stranger places I have stayed recently.

Was a little hesitant given some of the reviews but we enjoyed our stay here. We stayed Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday and were on the 8th floor above McDonalds but far enough away to not be bothered. Kids loved the pool, outdoor but heated. We had a 2 bedroom serviced apartment which had all we needed, plenty of room, clean and well equipped.

We booked at Medina as part of a holiday deal with Qantas and we were pleased with the location and the one-bedroom apartment. Good facilities, walking distance into the City Centre and a good deal for a four-day weekend in Canberra. But we arrived on a Saturday night and paid the price for the Apartments' location immediately above a 24 hour McDonalds outlet with drive-through facilities. And our second floor room was directly above the drive-through and over-looking the car parking! It was seriously noisy - people, cars, drunks, idiots. A loud quartet rendition of "Unchained Melody" at 5am was the last straw, so i-pods had to make do as ear-plugs until a visit to the chemist next day. Subsequent nights weren't nearly so bad but this is a serious problem. Insist on a room away from the western side!

Old and tired, needs a lot of work to make it the claimed "4 star". We only stayed there because it was recommended to us (we must have got the wrong place!) and we needed the extra space of an apartment type hotel for our sports gear. Although the staff were very friendly and helpful I would spend the extra $50 or so and stay at the Hyatt.
