“Charming and well located hotel”

Charming colonial, "old country club" style hotel. Very helpful staff. Amazing Bell Boy outfits. :)
Luxury service all the way and very conveniently placed within walking distance of all major Canberra sights. Stay 7days and walked everywhere I needed to get to. Extremely pricey though, as every other thing in Canberra is.

Stayed one night on the drive from Thredbo ski resort with friends car to Sydney as I was to catch a flight to Brisbane next morning. The Hyatt provides high standard five star lodging with spacious and modern facilities but retains the historic features of the federation era.The club lounge has a good selection of pre dinner drinks and hor' deurves. We always enjoy the seafood buffet for dinner. Free underground parking is provided.

Room Tip: Club lounge room is good value

I went on a three week business trip and I have found that there's a new scrum in dealing with customers, when you ring laundry, guest services pick it up., when you ring housekeeping, guest services pick it up. when you ring reception, guest services pick it up. So you can't speak directly. So what's happening is a clogged up phone service to guest services and I found this at the Hyatt where I had to hold on for 30 rings to get an answer.

But that's the negative side as the hotel is superb, the rooms and bathrooms are lovely.

Personally at the Hyatt I wouldn't fork out for 'club' as I found the food dreary (unlike the Sofitel) and the man in charge didn't even ask if I would like a tea or coffee (expected me to get it myself...which I did).

And again phone reception appalling if you have optus but I think the whole of Canberra is Optus averse...

But everything else was as a business hotel should be and I wished I had time for the high tea!

Room Tip: Try to get a room that has good mobile reception. Rooms facing the back and sides are quieter.

The Hyatt Canberra, although an older style building from the outside it delivers a great modern day service. We had adjoining park view rooms and the space was enormous - lovely and light unlike many 5 star hotels that feel dark and claustrophobic . The staff were great - particularly in the restaurant and lobby bar - we will be back !!

Nice rooms, you are stuck here at the whim of expense though. Food and service good. Only real issue, and this may seen trivial, is a $3 dry iron with melted plastic on it. Shame. Quite location and if you wish to just rest in Canberra would be a goid choice.

A recent stay at the Hyatt Canberra left me very disappointed. A loyal customer of the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne, I was shocked to find the Canberra experience worlds apart.
The hotel itself is pleasant and the room spacious and clean, the service hovering between pleasant and indifferent. The rude shock: paying in excess of $600 per night for an Executive Room and being required to pay an additional $30 a day for Internet; the explanation from the Duty Manager was as the Internet service is an external contract the hotel cannot provide a service at no charge. Adding insult to injury, technical support was woeful. The fact that the Business Centre was permanently occupied by the Armed Forces as part of a congress and thus out of bounds to regular guests and that even the Club Lounge had no Internet access limited to the single option of grossly expensive access: like it or lump it.
The Club Lounge was also disappointingly average. Service was ineffectual and there was not even an attempt to screen guests for their eligibility to enter the lounge. Presumably this is why the facility was full every evening with congress guests, often behaving badly. On checkout, several guests were overheard to have enjoyed their "complimentary access".
Woeful and expensive: buyer beware.

Comfy bed, nice linens, good lighting, robes, slippers, lovely bath products in the beautiful marble bath, a safe and even a kettle. We had a comfy small seating area and our room was very quiet, even with weekend weddings at the hotel. Staff was exceptional from reception to bell staff to friendly, fun, interesting Ross who was tending bar. Good location to Parliament and most embassies, plus near the major access road across the river to several museums. Although underground parking was A$25, there were plenty of free, convenient parking spaces near the back entrance to the hotel. WiFi was A$25/day. Small issue was the a/c which blew directly down on the beds. Public areas were lovely.
