“Enjoyed Our Stay”
Reviewed December 29, 2010

We enjoyed our stay at the CP Canberra. It is within walking distance of the major shops and restaurants. A classic CP experience. Our room was a good size, clean, well equipped and quite. The water saving shower head was so good we went the Bunnings and bought one exactly the same. The bed was large and comfy. I slept like a log. Bonus that the windows could be opened for fresh air. Staff are friendly and helpful. I recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the centre of Canberra.

We booked online for this trip to canberra. The photos of the room were decieving.. We booked for a park view room. When we arrived, the reception staff were clueless with our booking and took forever. charged us to use the carpark and an additional if we wanted breakfast. fee after fee after we just paid $400 for the night to stay at a 4-5* hotel. she then Handed our key and told us our room number and then she walked off. (inside twhere the foyer is there is just rooms and rooms) we were very annoyed. we had to stop her and actually ask for the directions to our room (what level its on etc). Our room wasnt big at all or elegant (like photos) just a dull room. just enough for a double bed and space for a desk area. Then there wasnt much of a park view- there was construction on and noisey with excerise groups on the park early in the morning. The room was clean but not spacious and not romantic getaway what we wanted esp for the price we paid. Wasnt impressed with the room or staff. Great location. 2 min walk to shopping centre thats about it.

stayed here 2 nights without a problem but on the second night i had a mad throbbing migraine headache. Went down to reception at 5 AM and asked for the first aid kit and a paracetamol tablet. The counter staff said they only had bandaids in the FAK. So I go out to get a taxi to a nearby convenience store. Immigrant driver has NO clue where a shop or chemist exists. This is IN the middle of the city now, not out in the mulgas. Why do I mention this, well when I arrived at the airport I got another immigrant driver who didn't know where a major government building was where I work. Clueless. totally.
Lucky the hotel was nice.

This is my second time staying in this hotel - the last time was in 2008. I was told that this is the most "stayable" hotel in Canberra. The room was clean, cosy and well-equipped. The bed was comfortable too.

The service standard is basic. Nothing you would shout about. I have a feeling that most staffs were students studying in the Universities and were working part-time for some living allowance.

I love the location of this hotel. Canbera Centre, its only shopping centre, is only a stone's throw away. So are the nightlife street, Gebe park, the War Memorial, and most restaurants.

We arrived at the Crowne Plaza off a flight from Sydney at around 10pm and were met by the friendly checkin staff who said they had overbooked and we would be moved to the 5 Star Hyatt Hotel for the night and moved back to the Crowne Plaza in the morning for our remaining 2 nights. Within a matter of seconds a taxi was pulled up and we were on our way the Hyatt. Breakfast and Internet Access were included in our stay at the Hyatt which was a nice touch for the hassle of having to be moved.
When we arrived back to the Crowne Plaza in the morning we were shown to our room overlooking the park. We had a room with 2 double beds wich was reasonably spacious and modern.

The hotel is located in central Canberra within walking distance of all the major shops and restaurants in the CBD. It is also close to the tourist attractions such as Questacon, National Museum of Australia and the War Memorial.
Breakfast was also included at the Crowne Plaza for us.
There are 3 computers with Internet Access available free to hotel guests in the lobby, however one problem we found was that the same people were spending hours on the computers each day and not letting other guests on like myself just for a few minutes to check E-mails/ Reconfirm flights etc

From 10pm to 4/5am there was constant screaming/shouting/laughing etc outside the hotel in the courtyard/walkway. It was very loud and no security around to stop it. As I see it a hotel is providing the service of a bed to sleep in, and as this was not provided I can only say they failed at their job and Do Not Stay Here. Woke up exhausted and asked room service for a knife and plate around 8.30am for an apple as we were too tired to try the apparetnly great breakfast. By 10am when we checked out it had not arrived. The hotel is lovely and renovated and check in was great, night manager was great when the bottom sheet on the bed was too small for mattress he changed it. But none of this matters when we had no sleep. Additionally the pool is not heated, and is outdoors. We heat our home pools in Aust, for a hotel pool not to be heated is really poor. The room configuration is bizarre, a third of the room is taken up by a work station/desk area and there is a poky funny little chair to sit on and a bizarre little table and wooden stool thing from which to sit at to eat. Awful. I took photos so you can see. The bed area is one the smallest I have ever seen. You can park out the front for free from midday Sat and all day Sun so no need to spend $15 on parking. I think that is poor form too.
