“The best breakfast buffet ever!”
Reviewed September 24, 2011

We stayed at this hotel over the weekend of my birthday and, having travelled all over the world, can safely say this hotel has the best breakfast buffet ever. They have a juice bar with an array of fresh juices and you can also make your own juice with the juicer machine. Pancake machine was fun, the buffet was plentiful but, best of all, was their egg station. You can order eggs any way you want them: even eggs benedict with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce! Just awesome. I agree with another review that their chai soy latte is to die for, so do give it a try.

As for the rooms, they are quite comfortable and well appointed. As someone else wrote in hteir review, their housekeeping staff has a very akward way of making the beds: the covers being way down towards the middle of the bed. They clearly place the top & bottom sheets on the mattress, then the duvet, and then they jsut fold all the sheets and covers under the mattress. This is evidently a faster way of making beds, but it's far from comfortable to sleep in as the covers barely reach your mid-section. If like me you like the covers to come all the way to your face then you are forced to tear the bed apart & practically remake it, as you cannot just remove the duvet - it all comes apart. Very uncomfortable. To bad as this is the reason why my review was downgraded to Very Good.

Another weird thing was that their flat-screen TV only had a standard signal coming through, making the picture grainy and ordinary - not a high definition signal. Also, their TVs don't have an HDMI input, making it impossible to view your own movies from your laptop. Very ordinary.

The bathrooms were clean with nice toiletries and the tea/coffee making facilities in the room were varied and replanished daily.

Will be back but really just for the breakfast ;-)

We just recently stayed at this hotel for a sporting event held at the AIS. Good location close to shops, restaurants etc. As someone else commented on for a hotel of its standard there was on one out front to greet and take our bags. As we stayed there for a sporting event we needed to use the sauna which was not operating... even though we checked the night before our arrival. Very disappointing for a hotel of this standard. Rooms were spacious but bathroom needed renovating. I have stayed at Crowne hotels in the past, here in Australia and Overseas, so I must say I was disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask if there are any building works!!! New building going up across the road. Was noisy even on th...

I stayed for a few nights this month at the Crowne Plaza for work. It's a fine hotel - nothing special but nothing overly wrong with it. However most of the rooms face the street. It's a small street and immediately facing the hotel is a massive construction site for a new mega apartment building. They start on the dot of 6am with every piece of machinery known to humankind - the ones that make the biggest noise. I was greatly disappointed that the hotel didn't let us know this was happening at the time of booking. Also a warning - if you're going to stay at this hotel - please note the construction has just started. Ask for a room facing the park at the back of the hotel.

Impressive lobby and helpful staff always make a good first impression. On this trip we had a room overlooking the front street and the room itself was clean and comfortable. On other occasions we have had rooms at the back overlooking the park and these are preferable in our view.
Breakfast at RedSalt a fairly standard hotel fare but the tea and coffee from the coffee "stall" sure beats the ones delivere from the pots.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the park

If you are considering the Crowne Plaza Hotel for business - consider that the internet access is dial-up speed, almost unusable for even web browsing. Surprising considering that 24 hours of access is $28.

Room Tip: Try to avoid rooms facing the noisy construction across the street

Considering this to be a 4.5 star hotel and a large lobby entrance driveway, there was no one who stood outside to help with bags. The lobby itself is impressive. The room was very spacious and kind of early 2000s modern, but the bathroom looks like it needs a bit of an overhaul with old fixtures and a bit worn out.

The price for the night of $315 is super expensive without breakfast. To have buffet breakfast it is an additional $30! The location of the hotel is fantastic - really close to Canberra Center so food is nearby, and it is right by a park with beautiful trees.

I would stay here again although this hotel is not luxurious so not really for a romantic stay, but for business it is good.
