“Book first if possible”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

Wow, this place is popular. A very worthwhile experience. Every dish is a new experience. No wonder people go back if only to work through the menu. The service is good and friendly and looking at other patrons it is obvious that they are known by the staff and return often. Nothing seems too much trouble and they know the dishes so they can advise.
Definitely a restaurant not to miss.

“Try the mushrooms”
Reviewed May 27, 2014

Went to Soju Girl with friends last night - Tuesday is 2.4.1 night so a real bargain for great food. Everything was delicious but for me the highlight was the mushroom dish (this dish wasn't on the specials menu) which is a vegetarian wonder, a variety of exotic mushrooms lightly cooked in a delicious sauce. All the food is a visual treat as it is innovatively presented on large white plates and it tastes great too! Zucchini flowers are not to be missed and the vanilla and coconut panna cotta was seductively wobbly with good texture and flavour, the deconstructed cheese cake was also a winner. The beer was icy cold and must have been popular as the one I was drinking ran out. Staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is casual but it is supper noisy! The tables seem large so you are a long way away from your dinner companions across the table and if you lack the skill to lip read it will be hard to follow conversations. They are having a go with the décor and there were some lively paintings on the walls to add colour and movement. This was my second visit to Soju Girl and it won't be my last - Thursday is cocktail night so that might be worth checking out!

“A Tastebud Challenge that disappointed”
Reviewed May 17, 2014

My Melbourne friend and I tried Soju Girl on May 16 on the recommendation of a recent Canberran diner. Both of us are widely travelled, hopefully better than average cooks and keen for new culinary and challenging experiences. Put simply we were disappointed with our shared meal of two small, one main and two deserts. The stuffed aubergine lacked flavour despite great texture and given their size must have proved a challenge to any sous chef who had to assemble them. However, the pork belly was excellent with the right balance of crisp skin and moist meat and piquant sauce. Both fans of slow cooking, we ordered the main of the 8hr. slow cooked beef rib. Slow cooking can be tricky. In this case the dish came with an overly dry inedible outer layer and corners which detracted from the lush inner layer of fat and moist meat. Hint to chef - ensure your juices cover your meat at all times. Desert of coconut panacotta was a real treat of delicate flavours surrounded by splashes of raspberry mousse and tiny crunchy musk stars. The deconstructed cheesecake was a messy disaster lacking flavour, it's saving grace a refreshing ice cream.
On the plus side service was excellent, courteous and informative; this was in contrast to the noise level generated by Friday night young 20 somethings lubricating with cocktails. Bouquets to the management who gave us a complimentary glass of Nick O'Leary Shiraz when we suggested that a mayonnaise drenched wombok salad which turned the beef rib dish into a greasy mess really needed an Asian inspired dressing.
Would we go back? Perhaps, but the advice is beware of fusion that supplants clear innovative flavours with confusing and competitive ingredients.

“Wow!”
Reviewed May 3, 2014 via mobile

We had an amazing night at Soju Girl. The food is stunning - lots of interesting flavours and choices. Three out of our four dishes were from the specials and were really beautiful.
Go with an open mind and you will taste some beautiful food. Loved the atmosphere and most impressed with our wait staff. I thought the prices were very reasonable.
Looking forward to coming back soon.

“Consistently Fantastic”
Reviewed May 2, 2014

We keep coming back for the outstanding food - whether you're ordering small plates and cocktails or big curries to share, you will not be disappointed. Book ahead if you'd like a table in the restaurant. The best way to order is shared plates. At the moment there's a special where all small plates are 2 for the price of 1 on a Tuesday which is fantastic!
We have eaten here dozens of times and have never been disappointed.

I highly recommend the beef cheek and the skirt steak!
