The ever-changing Treasures Gallery gives you free access to some of Australia's most moving stories. Make the journey and be intrigued, surprised, challenged and amazed by the stories these unique treasures tell. Highlights include material from the 1967 referendum and the campaign for Indigenous rights, as well as intriguing items from the life of poet Henry Lawson, including his fob watch and two of his pens. Enjoy unparalleled access to Australia's documentary heritage including books, serials, maps, newspapers, music and ephemera. Take in an exhibition, join a tour, browse the bookshop, or enjoy a bite to eat at Bookplate Cafe, taking in the lake-side views. “Another successful research trip”
Reviewed March 31, 2014

At a time when people question the continuing existence of libraries and printed books, the National Library is a prime example of why libraries are important. Staff are very helpful and cheery - service was good as usual

“The treasurers exhibition not to be missed”
Reviewed March 31, 2014

While the art and design of the Library are impressive, be certain not to miss the gallery where the treasurers are on exhibition.

“Grand”
Reviewed March 12, 2014

We have not used this library for research purposes, but visited the permanent "Treasures" exhibition which houses maps, documents and artefacts related to Australian history. Loved it. We also hoped to visit the historic maps exhibition but it was booked out.

“Map exhibition - must book ahead!”
Reviewed March 11, 2014

Took two tries to see this exhibition, but well worth it. It's free, but to give visitors a chance to get up close they restrict numbers, so get online and book your time slot early.

Parking also a problem, even on a week day, so be prepared for a bit of a walk.

“Fantastic Special Exhibitions”
Reviewed March 11, 2014

My wife and I recently visited the Mapping Our World Exhibition at the Library. This was a well put together exhibition that richly deserves the accolades that have been given in the media. The range of artefacts and maps shows great diversity from a 6th Century BC tablet through to the early mapping of Australia.
We have also visited other exhibitions at the Library and "Handwritten" was another stunning display. If you have time, return visits would add to your experience because there is much to take in.
A visit to the National Library is a must for visitors to Canberra.
