Owner description: See the beautiful, the rare and the unexpected at the National Library of Australia on the shores of Canberra's Lake Burley Griffin. The ever-changing Treasures Gallery gives you free access to some of Australia's most moving stories. Make the journey and be intrigued, surprised, challenged and amazed by the stories these unique treasures tell. Highlights include material from the 1967 referendum and the campaign for Indigenous rights, as well as intriguing items from the life of poet Henry Lawson, including his fob watch and two of his pens. Enjoy unparalleled access to Australia's documentary heritage including books, serials, maps, newspapers, music and ephemera. Take in an exhibition, join a tour, browse the bookshop, or enjoy a bite to eat at Bookplate Cafe, taking in the lake-side views. I went to Canberra to follow up on some old newspapers and magazines for a book I am researching about my property. The staff were friendly and helpful and genuinely interested in my project. We also perused the little museum they have with all different forms of records, drawings, prose, books, etchings. Just Fantastic!

Amazing. Beyond amazing. I love libraries and I definitely would move into this library if it was humanly possible!

If you thought the library was large you have to take the behind the scenes tour, where you'll see the old tubes system and the size of the archiving and stores of books underneath; as well as meeting 'Charlie'

Went to see the Centenary exhibitions this time (have enjoyed the other 'treasures' on display before) - enjoyed the Burley-Griffin material

I have always enjoyed the National Library and have been there many times just to enjoy brunch or lunch in the cafe (with magnificent lead light windows). I've also taken the free tour which I found fascinating and opened up a whole new function of the library which I had not been aware of. Well worth a visit again and again.
