“first visit- surprisingly good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2013

Great "treasures"exhibition on right now- free entry- great things to look at. Made a lot better by some well thought out kids activity books which had them running around finding the things in the book- allowed the adults to have a good look around. Is 5 min walk from questacon which allowed it to be a cultural stop before more great fun there. well worth a look- also free internet access and tonnes of computers in the reading room

“Culture and cafe”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

The library is great venue as it usually has an exhibition, as well as providing access to library services if you are a member. There is pleasant reading space and computers. Between that and the bookshop an afternoon can become more than a stop for something to eat. The outside environs are also attractive and a walk along the lake adds to the activities.

Bookplate, on the ground floor, is a nice stop after the exhibition etc. It seems always to be busy - but somehow, one gets a seat! Possibly perseverance is the answer, and being prepared to take 'second best' seating arrangements which become 'jsut what we wanted'. We began with sofas for three and a chair but the other peopl finished their meals and we had spacious seating on sofas for four.

The provision of water and glasses is a good innovation. The queue past the sandwiches, salads and cakes allows for enough time to make a choice from those or the meals on the whiteboard. The variety is impressive and, having eaten from each I can say that each choice offers some good meals.

The service is pleasant and efficient, with particular attention to clearing tables which is essential in such a busy environment.

“Always good service and popular”

Its a bustling but comfortable casual cafe, but is classy enough for most social occasions for a coffee or lunch. The stained glass windows add wonderful character. As it is right inside the gallery, you have easy access to the rich bookshop, the gallery itself and the exhibitions.

“An Australian Treasure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2013

Even if you have just one hour spare in Canberra, visit the National Library - especially the Treasures Gallery. When I first visited this gallery I had to look twice at a few of the treasures - that's actually a letter written by Charles Dickens? Patrick White wore those glasses? That's one of the original scripts of Waltzing Matilda? If you're keen on historical artifacts then you'll love this library.

“Impressive :)”

Excellent library with a fabulous archive. A treasure trove of our nation's greatest literature. Also contains volumes and other items from around the globe. Has that distinct "library" smell which I love - and is quiet like a good library should be.
