“Good little gem in the ruff!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

I have stayed at Burbury Hotel 3 or 4 times now for work and it has more than met expectations for the price and quality of hotels in Canberra. The rooms are new, have Apple TV, decent size flat screen, good mix of pay TV, modern furnishings and are of decent size. Some rooms have a few little issues like toilet paper roll holders are broken. Although some of the finishing are not 'high quality' it is a great room for the price.

The front desk staff (Gaurav and Steph) are super friendly and helpful, they make the hotel experience that much better.

The breakfast is decent and if you can get a room rate with breakfast included it is worth it.

One thing I would recommend is taking your own pillow, as I find the pillow a little hard and large.

Stayed at the Burbury following a work event. Very comfortable with excellent facilities and staff. breakfast was amazing from the terrace. A bit away from areas but Canberra is small so not really a problem. Enjoyed the stay very much.

I recently stayed at the Burbury. It is a very nice, modern hotel; however, there are no shops or pubs in the immediate vicinity (other than those that are part of the hotel). I did have breakfast at the hotel's restaurant (Maple + Clove) which was excellent, though a bit pricey. But you expect that from a hotel restaurant. Problem was I didn't really have any other choice since there's not much else in the area. It's about a 10 minute walk to the Kingston area, where there are shops and pubs. The hotel is dark (lots of black) including dark hallways that light up when there's movement. The rooms are also dark, even with all the lights on. Everything is modern and clean. They also provide Apple TV, which tended to freeze up but once I was shown how to reset it, it wasn't a problem. The facilities across the street at the Realm are great. The lap pool, sauna and steam room are nice, and there's a well-equiped fitness centre. I have nothing bad to say about this hotel. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the lack of pubs/shops.

Room Tip: Try for a room that is not facing the Realm. The outdoor restaurant can be noisy at night.

A good quality, modern hotel with comfortable rooms and AC. Hotel facilities limited by closure of reception desk at 4.30pm. All facilities described on TV in room, but not always easy to follow and after reception closure time, no one to ask in the hotel. All facilities after 4.30pm (including next morning's excellent breakfast) transferred to sister hotel across the street - not too convenient. this hotel was contactable by the internal telephone system.
The hotel was not close to the city centre, but better for visitors on government business.

Burbury opened about 12 months ago and is owned by the owners of Hotel Realm (next door) and hence, some of the facilities are shared (gym etc).

We booked a christmas special package in a suite for $235 which included breakfast. The hotel is very nicely appointed with a very nice boutique business feel.

Free parking undercover for guests. Check in was fast, with friendly staff.

The room was very well appointed with great decor and nice bathroom. Full kitchen with dishwasher for the suites (i don't believe the normal rooms have this).

Only thing missing in the rooms is art work (no pictures or paintings at all, which doesn't worry me but might be a requirement if they ever want to go to 5*).

Apple IPTV setup for the TV with latest release movies for $10 which is good value. Only criticism here is that when you watch a movie, the sound routes through the apple tv speaker box and not the TV so it is very hard to hear - we had to turn off the aircon and sit fairly close to the tv to hear it.

Bed very comfortable - didn't try the inroom wifi but it was there for use if you wanted.

Ipod dock with speakers on bed side table which worked well.

Breakfast was over the road at Hotel Realm and was very good.

Burbury also has Burbury Terrace on the roof, which is a cocktail bar (not open over Xmas), and Malamay sichuan chinese fusion restaurant which gets rave reviews (also shut for Xmas). A new cafe called Maple and Clove is also a short walk (closed too!)

A great stay and i think Burbury will become hugley popular in Canberra, as it is in a great location (short walk to Manuka and Kingston) and is slightly cheaper than Hotel Realm.

This is the cheaper version of hotel realm, it's still a very nice hotel and much cheaper then the realm. You have to cross the road to use the realm pool/spa facilities but its much more affordable. Good for business, spacious rooms.. But lounge room is a stupid layout with an overly large round glass table.. But this would be good for the business meeting or paperwork you may have.

Lovely Hotel in Realm precinct. More quiet and 'Hotel' like than the Realm, which offers a fuller guest experience. However the Burburys room are newer, more stylish and comfortable. Could be improved by a little art work on the walls. But overall very good and comfortable for a business stay. Eat breakfast at Maple and Clove downstairs outside and walk to Manuka (5-10mins) for dinner.

Room Tip: North facing room. It is worth paying extra as the basic room is a little cramped for more than one...
