What I really appreciate about this restaurant is that their dishes are unique and creative. It is not a case of "here is Lanterne's version of ......". They have their devised dishes, which you will not find elsewhere. And it helps that it is all YUM!
The menu is an eclectic range of dishes - mostly malay and the with some european touches or straight up classic modern dishes. The pork ribs are a favourite - meaty, sticky, sweet with a heady spice laden flavour. Next to them is a braised beef cheek that could come from any where - a cassaroled beef cheek that is rich and dark anf falls apart tenderly. grilled lamb cutlets with capsicum and mint pesto sit next to duck rolls, and crispy tofu and eggplant w black sesame dressing or ocean trout with fennel and carrot confit.
do you see what I mean? what a mix, what creativity, where else can you get dishes like this?
I have eaten in and done take away. When eating in, the atmoshere is quite intimate as they have large dark teak? shuttered panels creating small places where you only get glimpses of other diners and flashes of staff - very modern south east asian style.
Not dirt cheap - upper medium pricing. You have to book, and the restaurant is frequently full but I have not had trouble when calling just a couple of days out. I think this is the type of place where people think -"lets go sfter work tomorrow" and is quite relaxed. you'd be hard pressed not to enjoy this place.
