“Excellent 10 stars”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

Took my father to lunch today, it's our favourite eating place, we have never been disappointed, the service is second to none, the waiters and waitresses are so friendly and helpful, the food is to die for and I have not seen presentation with so much detail. Today was certainly no exception. They even managed to get my father his favourite starter (crayfish and crab) which was not on the menue. I would recommend this to anyone. Well done and thank you for making it a lovely lunchtime.

You will not be disappointed if you decide to stay at Le-Bouchon, we stayed in room 8, four poster bed and massive shower, room was very clean, ideal if you are attending a wedding at the Vaulty Manor, just 2 miles apart. Staff very pleasant and we enjoyed the breakfast the next morning. Did not seem to be much to do directly outside the hotel, but the reception would be better placed to advise on this, overall would definitely recommend Le-Bouchon.

This is a lovely little Bed & Breakfast. The food is really nice. The staff are more than helpful and friendly. They get 5 stars. The room we stayed in for two nights was spotless; However the ceiling was low, there was no room for a wardrobe, the shower head (no shower) over the bath was not high enough to stand under and wash your hair (I am 5 ft 5 inches) and had no proper temperature control. No iron was available which was needed since there was no wardrobe. It is NOT a hotel and NOT in Maldon but it is a lovely old house with a good restaurant. Recommend for a romantic meal and overnight.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Le bouchon,

The house within which Le bouchon is situated is a 300 year old listed building. Of the 13 bedrooms available, 2 of our rooms have low ceilings due to the period within which the house was built. Both of these rooms are classified as Classic rooms, the lowest priced rooms available. We are sorry if you found the room's proportions to be too small. Should you wish to visit us again in the future please do ensure you ask our reception team to place you in a room on the first floor as these are bigger than those on the second floor.

Both of these smaller rooms have showers over a bath designed to fit a person of no more than 6 foot 2. All of our other Classic rooms have showers. All showers and baths within the hotel have temperature control. We have not received any other complaints about water temperature, we are sorry if you felt that this was not working properly during your stay.

We are happy to offer an ironing service to guests between 8am and 10am daily. The reason we are unable to offer irons and ironing boards to customers for their own use is because we have had incidents in the past where guests have burnt the carpets or other upholstery. Because of the age of the building we are very cautious when it comes to activities that could potentially cause fire. We are sorry if the ironing service hours were not convenient for you.

We do believe that we offer enough services to be classed as a Hotel rather than a Bed and Breakfast, these include a 24 hour reception with night porter service, a 100 seat a la carte restaurant with 50 seat cocktail bar with above average ratings for food and service and 13 individually styled French boutique rooms, all en-suite.

We are located in Heybridge which is a 15 minute walk (up a steep hill) to the town centre of Maldon, or a 5 minute drive.

We are sorry if you feel that the description of the hotel does not truly reflect the facilities available or it's location. However, we do feel that we go above and beyond the quality and efficiency of the service you might find in Bed and Breakfast accommodation.

Thank you once again for your comments, we would like to assure you that they have been taken in good faith. We do hope to welcome you again in the future.

With kind regards,

Le bouchon.

We went for a family meal at Le Bouchon last night and were very impressed. The restaurant was comfortable and the decor was spot on. The food was brilliant and the deserts in particular were extremely well presented. There was a magician doing the rounds of the tables and he was definitely the best I've seen. Would recommend.

We took some business guests to Le Bouchon for lunch yesterday, the food and service was excellent. Afterwards we took a boat trip from the restaurant to Heybridge Basin and settled in for drinks at the Jolly Sailor, which was very nice too, our guests had a great time.

Well done! Would highly recommend it.

We visited Le Bouchon back in May for a night away. We were greeted by a beautiful entrance and a friendly receptionist who then took us to our room. Having both finished work late (NHS) we decided against dining in the restraunt (which was very busy) and ordered a couple of deserts to our room - Needless to say, the deserts were outstanding, beautifuly presented and priced well. We enjoyed the snatchable L'Occitane toiletries which complimented this boutique hotel very well! - During our brief stay, we both agreed that we would re-visit and that this hotel was most certainly in our top 5! - The place ouzes opulence and the service compliments this. If only the place was bigger; it is marketed as a small boutique hotel with a focus on quality rather than quantity and this was certainly reflected in our experience. We unfortunately had to dash back to Suffolk so didnt have the time for breakfast but I am sure it would of been beautiful! No swimming pool or fitness centre to comment on which is always a shame but I would never expect it in an old building like this.
