“Great staff, nice pub”
Reviewed July 2, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for one night with friends and took up 3 of the 4 rooms. Two rooms have en suite and the other two share a large bathroom across the hall. I didn't realise that we shared the bathroom with Room 2 and got quite a shock when I opened the door at midnight to find a huge bald bloke standing there! The rooms are a decent size though and comfortable. They could do with a bit of updating but I'm being picky. The breakfast was good. The sandwiches are better. The Brie/bacon and beef/horseradish were really good. The service was excellent. The staff were really helpful and went out of their way to help where they could. We could not have asked for or expected better service.

We'd spent the afternoon sightseeing in King's Lynn but none of the King's Lynn hotels we found online sounded as interesting or as good value as the Crown, so decided to drive the 7 miles out of KL and enjoy the lovely rural scenery along the way. The Crown Inn is a lovely historic country inn, just as described. The room was lovely; spotlessly clean, with quality antique furniture. The towels were thick & fluffy. There were even teddy bears on the shelf! The shared bathroom was just across the hall and looked newly renovated. The generous full cooked breakfast was included in the modest tariff.

Although our room was directly overlooking the entrance to the bar, and it was a Saturday night, we heard no noise and were not disturbed.

The restaurant downstairs has heaps of olde worlde country atmosphere and great food. The Crown Inn is certainly worth considering if you're visiting north Norfolk.

Room Tip: Room 1 is directly opposite the shared bathroom, so quite handy. All four rooms have low doorways...

A fantastic, friendly atmosphere in a traditional country pup. The staff and locals are extremely welcoming and helpful, both to our family and dog. As we stayed over Easter the entertainment in the pup was great. A great stay and we will be back soon.

It can not be repeated enough, this is exactly how you dream that a Inn in the countryside should be. A traditional Inn with 4 rooms, restaurant area and an incredibly pleasant pub with some booths and adjacent sittingrom. Certainly not overcrowed on a Saturday in Easter, but very friendly staff and guests. Walkingmaps available in the pub for tours around Gayton and suroundings. Guaranteed a place we will return to.

We again received a warm welcome when we arrived at lunch time and the pub is still very cosy as we had previously stated, We had booked the same room which was very well presented in a antique country style and very clean indeed. The smell from the restaurant who were preparing for lunch was also very nice, it's a shame we did not get a opportunity to eat there that day. Anyway we had a very relaxing night's sleep even though the weather was cold outside as the room heating was enhanced by the wood burner below in the bar as the chimney breast for this went through our room. Since we had stayed last May a new shower and screen had been installed in the bathroom which shows a constant standards improvement program is in place from feedback I had left them last May. Breakfast the next morning was very well presented and tasty and went down well and and the whole experience was very good one, as previously stated, I would not hesitate to go back there again which I now have.

Stayed recently at the Crown. Classic pretty country pub, good beers and friendly staff.
Our room although small was clean (apart from a few dead flies in the window areas). The shower was large and worked fine. Information booklet next to useless, poor spelling, negative messages and little or no local information. The carpets and pictures in the corridor and bedroom were straight out of the 1970s.
However it was the food that was the biggest disappointment. Upon arrival we ordered a Bacon & Brie sandwich, it arrived cold and had to be sent back, not a great start! £5 for a very basic Chicken & Mayo sandwich with a few crisps looks rather overpriced.
The restaurant area was interesting and full of character which cannot be said of the food. The menu is plastic and old looking although does highlight use of local produce which is good. The Steak pie was excellent, great pastry and plentiful meat, the seasonal veg had been cooked to death and therefore the cauliflower, peas and carrots had no taste let alone texture. The Goulash read well on the menu but whilst hot was tasteless and served in an overflowing bowl which made it look like it had been thrown together. It was not a disastrous visit by any measure and we enjoyed ourselves regardless but the accommodation and food side of the business let themselves down through poor attention to detail. For example at breakfast the waitress did not offer to tell us about the use of serials nor asked if we wanted any sauces, all a bit perfunctory.
Not great value for money.

Just spent a night here 8/9/12. Can't say I slept here. We had the twin room with en-suite. The sani-lav was noisy and seemed groan every 20 minutes. There was a green safety light in the room that was a tad too bright and lit up the room.
The room needed up dating, paper was coming off one of the walls and the tourist leaflets were a year out of date. Even the towels were showing signs of wear and tear. The signs were mis-spelled and curling. Perhaps it would be better to have them laminated?
That said the beds were comfortable and the pub was pleasant. Evening meal was plentiful and typical pub grub. Rate of inflation is a bit steep. Bought a 2nd round of drinks 30 minutes after the first identical round and the price had gone up 55p.
Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The pub welcomes dogs and Dizzie Dawg enjoyed her stay as well.
