Pousada Santa Clara

This is really a perfect place for getting away from it all. We stayed in #8, a duplex with spacious living room and bath on the first floor, and a wonderful bedroom with private balcony upstairs. Lying on the hammock one is surrounded by tropical vegetation and sound, and feels embraced by nature.

The Pousada is owned by Charles and Mark, brothers from the States, who express their individual managerial talents : Charles is the fun-loving meeter and greeter, and creates a social environment which enables easy connection, if wanted, among the guests of the twelve units. Mark is a master chef, and the restaurant --an open pavilion--offers opulent breakfasts, and gourmet preparations at dinner.

A perfect paradise that combines elegance and serenity in a relaxed and fun loving setting.

Charming and quiet pousada, one minute from the beach and very close to the village.
Charles (the owner) speaks several languages (including english) and provides wide information about the best way to reach the island, and also about the excursions and activities to do (I went to a long and lonely beach where some local kids were practising surf). They have a nice restaurant, and the food is amazing (including brazilian and international dishes), not to mention the unforgetable breakfasts and desserts... I also enjoyed some nice cocktails, prepared by colourful Mario. As a kind of gourmet seeking for nature and relax, that was the best way to start my holidays in Bahia.

It would be a travesty to travel to Bahia and not stay at Pousada Santa Clara. If you're not planning on going to Boipeba, rearrange your itinerary and go there.
The pousada is just beautiful. It's a series of disconnected cabanas set amidst beautiful tropical gardens. It feels incredibly private. We had #8 and it was spectacular. It was a two story cabana with a sitting area and bathroom on the bottom floor and the bedroom and large deck with a hammock on the top floor. The hammock was completely private and a great place to relax and read with a nice drink. We got to check out several of the other rooms and they were all unique and beautiful too. I thought #8 was the best, though.
I normal dispise eating at hotel restaurants. Pousada Santa Clara is not a hotel restaurant, though. It's an excellent restaurant that just happens to be in the pousada. The food is amazing. Breakfasts were large, delicious, and quite nutritious (something that is often hard to find while traveling). My wife and I were able to skip lunch every day. Dinner was great. There were three choices of appetizers, three entrees, and three desserts. The entrees tended to be one vegetarian, one meat, and one seafood, so there was plenty of variety. We actually ended up eating dinner at the pousada every night we were there.
The service was excellent. They knew just the right amount of attention each guest required. They were more hands on with the guests who wanted to chat and socialize and they were very hands off to the guests who wanted privacy (like us- it was our anniversary).
The amazing thing about this place is that it's only R$150 per night. That's such a ridiculous value for this quality of place.
My wife and I never go back to the same place twice (there are just too many amazing places to see in the world), but I know we'll be back to Boipeba. The reason we'll be back is because of the Pousada Santa Clara. It's just a little slice of heaven on earth.

Room Tip: Ask for room #8. Very romantic.

Pousada Santa Clara, run by the charming Charles is a special place in a very special island off Salvador. Reaching Boipeba is hard work (unless you take a small plane that takes just 20 minutes from Salvador), but thats probably what makes the island special, quiet, and unspoiled. The pousada is relaxed, easy going and very brazilian, lots of vegetation and unique charm. The restaurant is the best in the island with a different menu each day, all fresh and super tasty. We tried a couple of other restaurants and wished we hadn´t bothered.
Dont expect any luxuries, this is the opposite of a "island resort" type place. But is great value for an expensive country like Brazil. We will return!

Room Tip: get the large room over the restaurant

Santa Clara was all that i remembered it to be and more. It's the perfect vacation get away. Beautiful, comfortable, low key and relaxed. Yet the design, the food, and the service is quite sophisticated. The breakfast in particular, which is included in the price of a room, is splendid. I haven't had better anywhere! I love the atmosphere at Santa Clara and that I can wander off alone to any of the luscious sight that Charles recommends or arranges. I've stayed now in two different rooms on two different visits, both to be found via a magical garden path leading to a private room with spectacular views. Comfy bed and great shower. Gorgeous views from my balcony. Am hoping to return again next year.

Peace and quiet, endless white sand, torquoise sea, wall to wall sunshine, that was Ilha de Boipeba.
A charming pousada set in a tropical garden; a comfortable airconditioned room with a very good ensuite hot shower; a charming, welcoming and endlessly obliging host (Charles); great food (best restaurant on the island); and good company; that was Pousada Santa Clara.
Is it any wonder that I can say that I spent as relaxing and enjoyable a week here as I have spent anywhere in years ?
Santa Clara is run by brothers Charles (who manages) and Mark (who cooks) from California. It is worth noting that Charles (at no extra cost) will look after/ advise on travel arrangements between Salvador and Boipeba. I found this an invaluable service because getting to Boipeba for the first time visitor can otherwise be a daunting task.
Amongst the people I met was a charming Catalan couple who were making their 9th visit in 5 years to Santa Clara. That speaks volumes. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Highly recommended
