we spend a marvellous time (unfortunately only 6 days) on Boipeba. For people who love quite places, nature and peace, they have to come to Boipeba and they have to come to the Pousada Mangabeiras. The Pousada is very well located, sunrises, sunsets, large parc. Nice, spacy and clean bungalows, friendly staff and owners and very good food. Really, a perfect place to be. A little paradise and we hope to come back.

The other reviews say it all, a luxurious property on a magical island!

Ilha de Boipeba is a desert island with kilometres of beautiful palm-lined beaches extremely well preserved. We were amazed how few people there were. Our days were spent walking, swimming, reading, taking boat rides, visiting the natural pools and eating fresh seafood every day in a different place. The sea was warm, some waves, no current. Our children could play in the sea and we could switch off.

It was a hard decision between staying in Morere (far end of the island) or Pousada Mangabeira. I was so relieved to have made the right choice. The location of the pousada Mangabeiras was ideal - you could leave the pousada to the right and walk the beaches to isolated Morere, or turn to the left and walk to the beaches leading to restaurants, pousadas and the village of Boipeba. Having seen Morere, stunning as it it, I think we would have seen so much less of the island.

Pousada Mangabeiras offers everything you need: views, privacy, spacious rooms, large swimming pool, excellent bar service (great caiperinhas!), attentive staff, attention to detail and incredible breakfasts which were exotic and different every day. Very child friendly and the perfect place to relax after a day on the beach, you really felt like you were 'coming home'.

We dined each night in a different venue - the evening strolls to the restaurants in the village were fun, just a 20 minutes walk through a well lit path and along the beach from Pousada Mangabeiras. I would totally recommend Santa Clara - very much in demand and reservations are required. The food was simply exquisite. We also discovered a creperie (pancakes restaurant) run by a Belgian guy at the very end of the village which was delicious and catered for all tastes, salt or sweet.

The trip from Salvador sounded long (3 to 4 hours boat and car) so I was surprised to find that it was actually a fun journey - we took the ferry from Salvador port (40 minutes), car 2 hours then speedboat to Boipeba. Lovely adventure with nice scenery. The other option is a small 6 seater plane but much more expensive. Everything was organised through the pousada and Terra Bahia. For the return we chose speedboat then 3 hour car journey direct to the airport which was also fine, maybe less fun...

It was everything we expected and sadly we did not manage to extend our stay....

Room Tip: If you don't like air-conditioning make sure you check the ceiling fan in your room works. If yo...

This november I spent 3 fantastic days in Boipeba with my family. Not only Boipeba is a wonderful place, but the Pousada Mangabeiras is the best pousada I have been so far in Brazil.

The rooms are very clean and have an AMAZING view, since the pousada is located on top of a hill. They have also a TV with DVD so you can borrow DVD next to the reception and watch them in the room.

The breakfast is very good, with a large variety of things. The only drawback is that everything is brought to your table, and since it is soooo good you end up eating way too much.

The pool area is very nice and the pousada has a very nice garden! The hotel restaurant is also good, although a bit pricier than other options in town.

The hotel location, although it is 20 min walk from the main town is good since it is on the way to the nicer beach. The location on the hill also provides excellent views and if you want to have dinner out from the hotel there are other restaurant options within a 5-10 min walk.

The staff is very attentive and assists you with every doubt you may have about the island, trips etc.

On the overall we had a truly amazing stay and only regretted not having stayed there for more days, we will definitely come back!!

The magical island of Boipeba has a lot of little places nestled by the beach and at first I thought I wanted to be right on the beach. However, I am so glad we opted to walk up the steps to this wonderful secret getaway. If you're on the beach it's kind of jungly and creepy and some of the places don't have A/C or hairdryers, tv, etc. Mangabeiras is a romantic, sweet, small cluster of bungalows atop the hill nearest the main drag of Boipeba. Yes it's about 15 minutes to walk to "town". But it is a haven with its own pool, beauitful landscaping, bar and restaurant, and anyway you will want to walk away from the town to explore the beaches. Plus it has all the amenities and comforts you might wish for, such as tv, A/C, clean towels, pool, bar, etc. The owners speak English but none of the rest of the staff. At night you may feel nervous to walk from town back to the hotel, but the woods path is actually lighted. I had superb fish at the Mangabeira restaurant, and you can dine there even if you aren't staying at the hotel.

The breakfast (included) is spectacular, with different fresh items every day, and ridiculous amounts of fresh fruit. OH MOST IMPORTANTLY!! This is the only place we found on the island with expresso (it's a N'espresso machine) so if you are jonesing, it's worth the walk up the hill, even if you aren't staying here.

I can't tell you any more. I don't want anyone else ever to go to this island or even this hotel. It is so magical. In late October we had world-class beaches to ourselves. It looked like a magazine shoot. We were here as a couple but you would feel safe as a single (though lonely).

Room Tip: we asked for the best, biggest bungalow. it was the one with the jacuzzi. it was great.

Just back from 5 nights here. Only superlatives! On a trip to Brazil full of highs this was no exception. The service was superb, the staff and owners very friendly and helpful, the food great, the breakfast amazing, the room lovely, the view knock-out. Worth every penny. The island is extraordinary too especially if you like to escape the crowds. Low-key, laid back and stunning beaches. We'll be coming back.

What to say ... we felt like in the "Paradiso Terrestre", even better as there were no forbidden fruits ... ! The location is absolutely fabulous, offering a lovely garden with very quiet bungalows and fantastic views on the island, beaches and ocean. The owner of the pousada is very nice and friendly, and really shows a lot of care in making its guests comfortable. The infrastructure and its maintenance is impeccable, by far above standards in Brazil. The premises include lots of tropical plants and a nice pool. Rooms are spacious and very clean. Terrace large enough to comfortably sit and lay in the hammock. The breakfast was rich and the food variety as well. Last but not least, the staff very friendly and, important, smiling. Again, above standards compared to many pousadas and hotels in tourist locations. In conclusion, if you like peace and nature, a place to be! Congratulations to the owner for its dedication!

Definitely one suggestion to future guests who are spending a few days here and there: plan your stay at Pousada Mangabeiras at the end of your tour ... the chances of being disappointed with the next pousada are quite big.

Room Tip: After the first two days in bungalow 7 which has a wonderful view on the eastern side (open ocean, e...

If you do not mind climbing 150+ steps, then your best choice in the Island of Boipeba is definitely Pousada Mangabeiras. A cable car to lift you to the top of the mountain where the hotel is located is due to be ready soon, but in Bahia time has a different concept than from the rest of the world. And this is what makes it so attractive. If in Salvador you can relax already, in Boipeba you will become a slug, sedated by the rhythm of the island, the sound of the waves and the smile of the natives. And smiles abound at the Pousada, where the service is impeccable, the breakfast is a feast and the cleanliness is what you would expect from 5-star hotel. If you can handle it, take the plane from Salvador airport; the 30-min flight is a bit scary but worth it for the view and for saving you time (boat ride can take up to 4.5 hours). When in Mangabeiras, make sure to visit both sides of the island. The village is a bit far from the Pousada, especially at night; so make sure you get a flashlight before leaving. Leave your troubles behind and soak up the sun, either by the warm-watered pool or in one of the island beaches, of which probably the most beautiful is just under your room.
