First of all, this island is not for anyone looking for an action-packed island adventure filled with motorboats etc. Boipeba is chilled. Pousada Mangabeiras has the best location on the island with views that are spectacular, killer caipirinhas and a pool that goes down really well after a long day of exploring the island and soaking up the awesome seas around Boipeba. The breakfast is crazy good, maybe too much and too good but you have a wide range to choose from and your average person will never be able to get through all they have on offer. The rooms are fantastic, each with a great view and a hammock that is perfectly placed to watch the sunrise/sunset. Biopeba was more than anything I expected and Cueira beach was the business. However, I wouldn't go back again because it will never be as good as that first time!

My tip for visiting Boipeba - book one night longer than you originally planned to, you want want to leave, so you'll be so happy you booked that extra night!

We stayed 4 nights at the Pousada Mangabeiras and from the moment we arrived we loved it. A last minute flight change meant we arrived earlier than expected, so we were offered a complimentary light snack to welcome us - it was no snack, it was their full delicious breakfast - juice, fruit, yoghurt, breads, delicious cakes, couscous, all beautifully presented, a delight. Our room was lovely, well equipped (nice touch, the TV takes SD memory cards so we could look at our photos on the screen. Our balcony overlooked the palms to the beach, with a very comfortable hammock.
We stayed in late September, and there were few other visitors - we once saw 9 other people on the beach, that was busy! The weather was mixed - started cloudy most days and often rainy, but cleared late morning / early afternoon. If we are lucky enough to visit again, would probably try to go a month or so later (and of course stay longer!). The island itself is so relaxing and unspoilt - that does mean you must take a torch with you if you leave the Pousada in the evening, no streetlighting here! and check the tides too as walking along the beach is not always possible, but there was a path alongside that was easy to find to take you towards the village.
Following the recommendations, we visited Santa Clara on 2 evenings and enjoyed superb meals both times. We ate at Pousada Mangabeiras too - food was very good, but no other guests so a bit quiet for us. We also had the loster mocqueca at Guidos along the beach one day - a very generous lunch, and again delicious.

Pousada Mangabeiras was all we could expect during our stay on the beautiful island of Boipeba. The pousada is located on the top of a hill wich gives us fantastic views from the beaches of the island, the sunset or the sunrise, depending on the room you pick. The pool is great, the breakfast gorgeous and the room has everything you need to rest after a day on the beach. In the evenings we always had nice south american wine and delicious food at their restaurant, with great music and good service.
Perfect place for our honeymoon!
100% recommended! Go there and have a great time!

This was our first trip to Boipeba, on our honeymoon. My dealings with the hotel had been through email- The manager / owner had excellent english and arranged our travel to the island (by plane from Salvador-highly recommended!!) One of the hotel's staff was waiting for us at the beach when we arrived and carried our luggage with a trolley through the beach and up the hill where the beautiful pousada is located. Bring as little luggage as you can - you dont need it. The pousada is located on top of a hill, with fab views of the island. The swimming pool is one of the selling points in our opinion, it was great to have a swim either first thing in the morning when its hot or last thing at night during sunset. The rooms have all you can expect - large comfortable kingsize beds, a balcony, a large bathroom, air conditioning, big screen TV & DVD.
Breakfast is excellent but we didnt even sample the dinner as we were won over by Santa Clara's menu from day 1. The staff while we were there didnt speak much english but we managed to get by. Dont forget to try Guidos for lobster (around the corner on Cueira beach)

It was our second time in Boipeba. As usual in Boipeba, someone from the hotel's staff was waiting for us at the beach when we arrived and carried our luggage with a trolley through the beach and up the hill where the beautiful pousada is located. As a rule in Boipeba, bring as LESS luggage as you can. To reach most pousadas you have to walk through the beach or through tracks.
The pousada is located on a beautiful hill, with astonishing views from different sides of the island. Nice swimming pool and pool area, a restaurant, a bar, a small library and DVDs you can borrow to watch in your room. The rooms have all you can expect. They are large, have comfortable kingsize beds, a balcony, a large bathroom (the shower could be stronger, but they have solar energy to heat the water, so it is understandable), silent air conditioning, big screen TV, DVD and wireless internet.
Breakfast is excellent, dinner is OK. Try the mangabeira juice they have, it is delicious. We had dinner everyday there because it was already our second time on the island and we were too lazy to leave the agreable area of our Pousada. But if it is your first time there, go explore. Pousada Santa Clara has a very good restaurant too and you can have dinner there as well even if you are not a hotel guest.
