“Top quality brunch”
Reviewed July 2, 2014

Beautiful location for a restaurant in the historic Varna Palæ and a reputation to go along with it. Master chef Palle Enevoldsen serves up delicious and refined menus using local products from the region and the place has a wine cellar that beats most in Denmark.
We tried the Sunday brunch, and there is a reason you have to order months in advance. The highly popular Varna brunch is a really elegant selection of fish, seafood, charcuterie, salads, cheeses and sweets, all accompanied by tasty home-made bread. We both agreed that brunch does not get much better than this. Only downside to it: the orange and apple juices are not freshly squeezed - but with such an array of delicacies we could live with that. 5 stars from us, and we will be coming back!

“Good food & great service”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

We were guests of a local at Varna on a Wednesday night & the entire experience was seamless. The moment we walked in we felt completely at ease and confident that the staff was willing & able to provide everything & anything we needed.

The interiour was well decorated, but unfortunately we arrived after dark so we did not get to view the grounds. The meal itself was good, though some of the wine pairings seemed a bit off to me & I was not fond of the dessert.

The opening, served in a cozy seating area, was an assortment of snacks & champagne was perfect. Once at our table, the appetizer, cod & artichoke soup was delish as was the main, a good veal filet with roasted vegetables. The only let down was dessert. It was an orange peel (bitter orange) sorbet with a chocolate brownie. While I like unusual desserts, the chocolate was not a sweet chocolate leaving the dessert to be too heavy on the bitter. Some may like it though, I just prefer a sweeter end.

“Excellent food, wine, service and atmosphere”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

I visited Varna on a Thursday night with my husband and we had a fixed price fall menu - champagne, snacks, 4 courses incl. wine and coffee + petit four for 599 kr - a bargain considering the high quality of food, wine and service.
We were greeted by a hostes who took our coats and showed us to our table in the beautiful dining room. Champagne and snacks were quickly put on the table and presented by our waiter, who showed excellent knowledge about the wine and food throughout the night, without ever being too pushy or breaking into our conversation. The appetizer was a small portion of lobster sallad with apples and the first course was a bisque with a piece of cod grilled to perfection - one of the most delicious fish dishes I have had for a while. The main course was a variation of pork with pickled onion, mushrooms and potato gratin. The dessert (pickled pear with hazelnut ice cream, fresh hazelnuts, chocolate mousse and earl grey foam) was out of this world. Beautiful and out of the ordinary tastewise - nice to see that the dessert was creative and different rather than just beeing a crowd pleaser as is most often the case. The wines accompaning the menu were delicious and generously topped through out the night.
Truely one of the best meals I have had for a long time.
The atmosphere also have to be mentioned. The grand old mansion is located with a view of the Aarhus bay, right at the edge of the forrest. It has been renovated with respect for the old building and the interior is modern, yet classic and very cozy.
We will definitely be back - our best dining experience in Aarhus yet!

“The most beautifull location in Aarhus”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

Restaurant Varna has the most beautifull location in Aarhus. It reassembles forrest and sea in an almost Disney like castle. For this reason this is the preferred wedding location in the city.

Chef Palle Enevoldsen has been a top chef for 25 years and to me he is the best foie gras and sauce chef in Jylland. Dining here is always a great experience but it do not become too pretentious. Here you can get a nice three course dinner for less than 500 DKK and you will not be disappointed.

Unfortunately you may experience that a large party is taking over the resources in the kitchen so sometime you will experience a longer waiting time and it might be a bit noisy.

But in the spring and summer period you must try this location.
