The cabañas are in a relatively large compound with lots of shade and privacy from the surrounding town. The couple that manage the property are extremely friendly and the whole atmosphere is fairly sedate this time of year (first week of December). I imagine it gets a bit more hectic in January and February. We travel with this crazy dog we adopted in Santiago, and she had the best time of all, running around the compound and playing non-stop with one of the resident dogs. It is a very dog-friendly place, which we really appreciated. The cabañas are clean and well maintained, and it is right across the street from the south end of the Pichidangui beach. The beach consists of a wide stretch of fine-grained, firmly packed sand, excellent for walking or running, and it stretches a several kilometers northward in a gently arc. Because it is situated in a semi-enclosed bay, the surf along the southern half of the beach is very gentle -- not your typical Pacific coastline. On the whole it is quite scenic, even if the weather is foggy or cloudy. Highly recommended.

We stayed in Pichidangui numerous times on various cactus focused trips to the Atacama Desert. It's an easy distance from Santiago Airport, soon after the Pan American Highway reaches the Pacific Coast. There is a really nice restaurant about half a kilometer towards the Ocean. For us the main attraction are the cacti - Three species of Eriosyce (E chilensis, E. subgibbosa and E. curvispina) as well as Eulychnia castanea that are usually in flower in October.

Room Tip: Reasonable prices outside the peak holiday season and during Chilean Public Holidays - this is a popular resort with visitors from Santiago.

Definately recommend this hotel if you're looking for a quiet get-away with the family. The locals are friendly (not the busy big city attitude) and peaceful. The area is center to two other popular beaches (La Serena and Maitencillo) which is great for restaurants and shopping.

We recommend taking the 30-min boat ride in the bay...it takes you to a small island with penguins...

Another recommendation is a good restaurant off Ruta 5/Route 5 called "Trattoria y Cafetería L´Incontro". The Chef studied in Miami and specializes in Italian/Meditern cuisines. Competely awesome!!!!

Enjoy. Ciao

Room Tip: Beach beach and more beach. The restaurant is great. The bar/pool at the hotel is also great!

We staid there, family of four - 5 year old and the other was less than a year old. Really nice grounds, quiet and private, even though the hotel sits right on the main street, in front of the beach. The pool is beautiful, overlooking the beach. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Breakfast can be eaten outside by the pool or delivered to your room. There is a small play area, juegos infantiles that was a favorite of our son. Private back patio for lunch and dinner. Great location, very relaxing.

The beach, though not real easy to access with a stroller is very broad and nice. February, which is high season - summer vacation for most Chileans, makes for a "crowded beach" by Chilean standards. Even at the pique of the day 1-5 pm, there was plenty of beach if you were willing to walk a few minutes. Trampoline, horseback riding, kite flying, swimming, kayaking, bike rental, scuba diving, among others. The hotel has some discounts - just ask.

Great trip for a long weekend, the town is small and easily walkable.
