We stayed one night towards the end of September. On arrival the site and the building are very impressive and full of character. We were met with a cool reception by one of the owners/managers. We selected the accommodation based on reviews and the fact that on at least two sites a restaurant was mentioned. On requesting a table for two in the restaurant we were informed that the restaurant was not open and that there was one in the village a couple of hundred metres away. We were informed that booking of this restaurant was not necessary and it opened at 19.00. This village restaurant was closed as was a second in the village. A car journey was required to obtain any food. We were also informed by the owner/manager that breakfast was served between 08.00 and 10.00. Despite being later than we required because of a Channel crossing we accepted this. However in the accommodation information it clearly stated that breakfast during the week was 07.00 to 10.00. It felt as if we were serving the needs of the management rather than they providing a service to us.
Our room was full of character but it had not been dusted efficiently. The en suite shower was dirty and had mould around the bottom. The shower did not drain properly, the plug hole was filthy and there was a leak from the base. There was a thick layer of dust in places and spiders webs had not been cleared. The bedroom window would not open. Overall style took on more importance than substance.

On arrival we had to telephone to obtain access despite a sign saying that someone would be in attendance from 16.00 hrs. We stayed in a suite which is an annexe to the main house. This was a converted farm building but the standard of the fittings was very poor and it was furnished with cheap furniture. It was not clean and the shower did not work. The management could not care less. Breakfast was OK.

Our GPS drove us right at the gate of the mansion where a friendly (and obviously male!) horse welcomed us from its meadow. The front of the house is devoted to guests and hosts, and the back to stud farming. We were given two rooms that were superbly decorated with modern furniture and comprised beautiful bathrooms (shower, no bath). Sleeping rooms and bathrooms were obviously designed by an excellent desgner who, however, had never slept in them, as there was no wardrobe and, in the smallest one, no chair. Lighting was poor, hardly allowing for reading in bed and making my wife complain on her ability to use the mirror in the bathroom. Yet, the bed was large and very comfortable and we spent there three good nights.

Breakfast was served in a large room on the ground floor. It always was delicious: crisp croissants, pastries and various small breads, fresh fruit, home-made jams, local cheese, espresso coffee. Every day, it included a warm dish: omelette, thin pancakes or warm quiche. I had not had such a delightful hotel breakfast for a while.

The immedediate surroundings are relaxing: large trees, garden with original fountain and sculptures. The noise of the motorway that runs along the premises, about 300 m from the house, does not disturb too much. Anyhow, do not expect silent nights while walking under the trees!

Hosts were friendly but obviously more busy with the farming duties than with the B&B guests.

This bed and breakfast shares the front wing of a stone homestead with an contemporary art gallery (formally closed during our stay, but we did get to wonder around). At the front there is a sculpture garden that completes the setting. The owners live in the remaining (back) wings. The owner was welcoming and helpful. The room was nice and well appointed, with a well designed bathroom (with a shower stall and a separate jacuzzi bathtub). Breakfast was served at the table. We regret only not having asked for a fan, as the night we spent there was one of the hottest in Belgian history. The nearby motorway is not immediately visible, but don't expect a silent countryside, as the trucks and cars were quite audible in the still summer night.
