We recently spent an enjoyable 4 days here while visiting relatives in Latvia. The Wild Duck catered our 30th Wedding Anniversary meal for 26 people- the food was plentiful and excellent quality. We were really happy with it. We did not use the sauna so cannot comment, but we used the leisure facilities which were housed in a big cottage to continue our party- there was a snooker table upstairs and comfy sofas- the balcony is not safe for children.
The accommodation cottages were very spacious, the bedding was spotless, and beds very comfortable (4 single beds in two rooms), towels were provided. There is a sand pit and swings for older children. On the negative side, the furniture in the living room was very hard and uncomfortable, the floor downstairs needed a good clean, and the kitchenette was basic, consisting of a kettle, fridge, microwave, plates and cutlery, although there was a bbq outside each cottage. There is a small town with supermarkets about 3km away.
The 'wi-fi' is not great, you have to walk around the reception area to find a good spot!
We felt that we could have been welcomed better, and given some information about the hotel and area- their website is more welcoming than they are in person, but perhaps this is the Latvian 'reserve'.
Wild Duck is in a beautiful spot, but be warned, it is on a main road, although this did not spoil our stay.
