cannot recommend this place enough ,shear heaven, thank you so much, would love to come again, far enough away to be so peaceful but not too far that one can't nip out for coffee and croissant in Castel Reggione or early drinks in the same bar of an evening, missing it already

We drove here from Assisi and I will forewarn you it is hard to find. Fabrisio, our host, kindly met us in Umbertide and we followed him down 30 minutes of scenic twisting mountain roads to a beautiful farmhouse set back 200 yards off a small road. The guest portion of the house was with rustic charm and everything you will need for a restful stay in this incredible countryside. We hiked explored with day trips and slept a lot by the pool. It was one of the most peaceful places I have ever been and my wife and I own a farm.
Our host were exceptional and treated us like family.
I cannot adequately describe the beauty of the surrounding countryside but it consisted of mountain top castles or watchtowers, beautifully cultivated land (Tobacco believe it or not), blood red poppy fields and hardwood forest. We saw wild boar, deer,
hedgehogs and badgers daily on the road. The birds were great singers and we were within 15 minutes of three exceptional restaurants. There are a great number of expat Brits. here so there was little language problems.
I am not sure about rating this property as high as I am because of the potential of not being able to book it in the future.
Beautiful, peaceful - the perfect place to "get away" from it all. Even if Gwyneth Paltrow happens to be staying nearby... Well equipped villa, comfortable and full of homely touches. The pool is stunning and private in a rich secluded garden and was a welcome distraction for two energetic children. Lucia and Etsio are very welcoming and helpful but do not impose themselves on you. So many glorious places to explore in the area and wineries and restaurants to sample. We reached Florence in less than 2 hours and Rome in 2.5 hours. We will definitely return!
Staying at Borgo la Colonica far exceeded our expectations. A special welcome after a long journey with a local bread, salami and wine was much appreciated.
The house is well decorated with a relaxing, local feel. You can see the attention to detail on almost every step: scented candles, cute owl cushions in kids’ bedroom, embroided towels etc. The photos on the website do not make it justice - this is such a nice place. The kitchen is so well equipped, we had a number of BBQ dinners al fresco and the house had all we needed.
Our children loved the pool – it’s big, there is enough room for racing, jumping, playing silly with grandparents! Scenic views, relaxing on comfortable outdoor furniture observing the sunsets with a glass of local wine was truly idyllic!
The local village of Preggio (10 minute drive near fields full of sunflowers) has a good cake shop with delicious tiramisu, there is a quality butcher and a small supermarket where you can order home made ravioli.
The property is very specious and the owners are discrete while very hospitable. We entertained friends with children one afternoon and there was enough room for a dinner party of 10.
We all had a wonderful holiday and left with great memories.

This is a delightful holiday home, would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful retreat in Umbria. There is plenty of relaxing outdoor space with amazing scenic views across the mountains and the house itself is comfortable and has everything you could possibly need. Fabrizio's parents are incredibly kind and friendly, they looked after us really well and we can't wait to see them again next time we visit.

The owners on site are discrete yet immensely hospitable. On arrival we were given a tour and then left to settle in and enjoy the wine and cured sausage left for us. They adore children and make a big fuss of them. The villa itself has all you need!! The pool is a welcome break from the heat. The location makes it a good base to visit Rome, Florence and other Umbrian and Tuscan sites. One of the best holidays I've had, didn't want to go home!!

We had an amazing vacation while staying at Borgo la Colonica! We had never been to Umbria before, and staying in this home made our stay perfect.
First of all, the owners, Ezio, Lucia and Fabrizio are incredible hosts. Not only are they kind and welcoming and helpful, they let our three-year-old help them water the plants and pick strawberries. If we needed anything they were more than accommodating.
THe property is stunning. The garden is immaculate, the yard is well groomed and they have wonderful lawn furniture to relax on, visit and even eat outside. The pool is salt water, which we loved and it is always incredibly clean and the perfect temperature.
The inside of the home is clean and has comfortable furniture and is the perfect size. They had everything we needed for a long stay. The bedrooms were a great size and the beds were comfortable. We couldn't have asked for more perfect accommodations.
The surrounding area is beautiful. Although it's a bit remote, we loved the peace and quiet. Preggio is a beautiful village 5 minutes away, and Castel Rigone is a bit bigger of a village 15 minutes away and has a bar, grocery store and is a stunning medieval village. Make sure and visit the church! Wow! Umbertide is about 20 minutes away and has everything you'll need. We also loved the Girasole di San'Andrea restaurant close by. The owners can tell you more. They are from the area and had lots of recommendations for us.
Overall, I would give this home the highest marks. We will always have fond memories of our time at Borgo la Colonica in Umbria!
