“Quiet & clean . !!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2013

We arrive at Sitia , from Heraklion airport , after a 2 hour drive , (with a local Sitia taxi we found on internet ) . The hotel is right next to the beach , at the edge of the town . Very quiet area , safe , and clean . The hotel staff are from the friendliest we ever had experienced . The rooms are very spacy , and ours was with the beachfront view . I am Greek oriented and my husband from UK , and both were very pleased with the surroundings , and the Greek look design . The buffet ( we had the all inclusive package ) has a large variety of tasty foods , deserts and drinks , that pleased us both . The access to the beach is just few step away , and the sea is super clean . You really don't need to hire a car to visit Sitia , because the center of the town is just 10-15 minutes away ( walking ) . Typical Greek port city with the feeling that you are in the main land , and not in an island . A thumb down to the municipal authorities , for NOT keeping the town clean . The center square was filled with bird poop , everywhere , and nobody seems to care . !! We tried the spa , one time only . The extra charge kept us away for the rest of the week .

Room Tip: try the beachfront rooms

This is the kind of hotel for which you would want to write a BAD review - just to keep it as a well guarded secret - just for us. It was a brilliant find. We stayed for a week in the middle of April 2013. Awesome. The hotel is very new with great facilities. There is a choice of sea view or garden view. We had sea views from 3rd floor generous balconies. The rooms are appointed to a very high standard with comfortable beds, good lighting and tastefully decorated, yet uncluttered. A very reasonable mini-bar which doubles as a fridge is provided. The hotel provides complimentary large bottles of cold water. The shower. bath tub is awesome with plentiful supply water. There is airconditioning and tv - only two channels in English and since it comes through broadband the signal hiccups quite a lot- particulalry at the good bits. The rooms are tidied and cleaned every day by a thorough but friendly and understanding staff. Ther are four swimming pools ranging from the large pool you will see on their brochure to a small pool probably meant for unfants. Complimentary towels are provided. There is a games area with table tennis and air hockey, a disco and a spa for various treatments. Although the place was quite empty at the start of the season in high season there is adequate seating in the bar, restaurant, terraces and around the pools, The complex is secluded from the road by shrubbery yet the main saidy beach is only 30 feet away. The best surprise was the generous buffet with a wide range of starters, abundant feta cheese, wide choice of main courses and desserts - frequently replenished- soft drinks and complimentary wine. A glass of wine in a town restaurant costs €6 - the entire 4 course buffet with read and white wine on tap costs on €12 - great value. A decent meal/wine in the tavernas around the waterfront will easily set you back over €50 for 2 - so the restaurant at the Sitia Beach is great value. The restaurant staff are gracious and helpful. The hotel is about 300yds from the town and there is a good supermarket called Ariadne near the back door. Sitia is not easy to get to - and let's hope it stays that way. It is authentically Cretan - far from the madding crowds in the 'hot spot' with their wall-to'wall chugga boom disco music and outrageous souvenir shops. Sitia is like a decent friend and we are glad we went there. its seclusion gives it s tranquil restful air. We drove to a beautiful monastery called Toplou (10 miles) and to Vai beach (15 miles) This is the beach that the Bounty bar adds were made on 'They came in search of paradise...' We were delighted with Sitia Beach hotel and would return in a heartbeat. Crete is our favourite island and we have been 6 times, including Rethymnon, Malia and Elounda, Ag Galni in the south but Sitia has been the best yet. I think Crete only gets one week or rain a year - and the people love that rain because it fills up their reservoirs, waters the olive trees and plants . We landed there in that one week of rain, high winds and stormy waves - but that did not dampen our spirits because of the excellent time we spent at this great hotel. For quiet gracious luxury this is the place to go.

We know , that no matter what we will Do , we will never be able to satisfy ALL people . That's the reason i will like to read all kind of reports here in Tripadvisor . From the BEST comments to the WORST complaints . If you take your time and carefully read the reports , the experienced traveler will easily make his mind . I decided to write my opinion / review for SITIA BEACH HOTEL after i had completed reading all the other peoples reports ( Positives and negatives ) and i decided NOT to write ( For the First time ) I liked this ,and i hated that , etc etc , BUT instead , to let you know this ONLY = This establishment is THE BEST hotel that this side of CRETE has to offer for you . If this hotel will not satisfy you , then NOTHING will satisfy you EVER in the SITIA area . I KNOW because i been almost everywhere around here and i personally have experienced the quality . By the way i recently discovered a You Tube video about this hotel . It's in Greek and very amateur , but was made by an ( unknown to me ) enthusiastic traveler = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHEvfUmgC3c

Room Tip: Try beachfront rooms . Best view of the Sitia Gulf But also a little noisy at pool hours

Very nice rooms, great location that is close to the city and we were given a room with an awesome beach view.
The buffet was also great value and we had no problem with the food or included drinks for only 12 Euro pp. The service was also very friendly and were interested in how Australians had managed to find our way there! Only downside was they charged to access the gym and you had to book in and pay to use the spa.
Despite this, if we came back to Sitia we would definitely stay here.

This hotel is favorably located at the end of the town of Sitia, with immediate access to the beach and the town's numerous cafes, restaurants and bars along the shore, which is almost entirely a pedestrian zone. It is a hotel built in the seventies (now only partly refurbished) with an, at the time, interesting design based on a minoan concept. The building features a mix of stone and dark-colored marble and is structured around the pools and towards the sea, with open-air access to the rooms, thus pleasantly allowing cool air around. The pine trees and local plants provide cosy shadowed corners and give the place a genuine mediterranean feeling. The rooms are fully refurbished, but the rest of the place, esp. the front desk area and the main pool, looks dated. The restaurant's service is much below the 5-star standard; we only had breakfast, which was quite rich in terms of variety, including many interesting and freshly prepared local products, but service was very poor -- in my view, due to the dominant all-inclusive character of the hotel (however, not all guests have all-nclusive packages). There are good tennis, basket and football courts and a satisfactory gym -- however, the hotel's reference to "Spa facilities" is an overstatement. A big disadvantage is that the hotel does not take care of its beach: Umbrellas and sunbeds are dated and unattended and there is no service or other facility of the hotel as regards the beach;whereas the parts of the beach just next to it are well attended by the corresponding hotels and cafes, so we turned there most of the times. The overall place in and around Sitia is very interesting (car is needed), featuring nice unspoiled beaches (eg Kouremenos and Erimoupoli, with no sunbeds, umbrellas and crowds -- Vai is beautiful but crowded), a historic monastery, many interesting archeological sites and walking possibilities. The place is usually pleasantly windy, offering a cool summer feeling. It is an off-track destination, needing a 2-hour drive from Heraclion (the local Sitia airport only serves very few flights). The area is known for its local food specialities, with many little taverns and restaurants in the town and around, so I think dining at the hotel is not an option in this particular case.

3 nights half-board in rooms 316 and 317.
On the plus side: the rooms were good, the front-desk service friendly and professional, the swimming pools pleasant.

On the minus side:
- we found the buffet restaurant _really_ poor quality (I even found myself taking pictures of the kryptonitesque "pistachio" and "strawberry" ice-cream tubs). My two children, who are really not of the fussy sort, compared it to their school canteens. Nowhere near the standards expected of a five-star hotel. To make the experience worse, the dining room and terrace were overcrowded and finding a free, clean, set table took time.
- the beach is really _nothing_ to write home about, to put it mildly, as other reviewers have pointed out. We ended up going to lovely Vai twice.
-the front swimming pool and poolside loungers can be overcrowded too, especially in the morning.

On the bizarre side:
90%+ of the clientèle during our stay was French.

The most expensive - and disappointing - of the four places we stayed at during our Cretan holidays (Doma in Chania, Anna in Plakias, Lato in Heraklion). The only one we wouldn't recommend.
