We arrived at Maison Hotel after having stayed at various hotels in Thessaloniki and near Meteora. We were greeted with a very welcome, asked if we cared for something to drink and were escorted to our room with our teas. The room was very comfortable and had basically everything we needed. That even included a bottle of wine, believe it or not!
You may think these could only happen when a hotel is not full so here is more essential information about what the hotel has to offer. The hotel is located near the old Athina-Thessaloniki road and looks like it is a new building from the outside. Once you are in, it is clear it is a new building. Maison Hotel offers you the service that you may get if you paid twice the money in Thessaloniki. It was the cheapest hotel we stayed at during our entire trip.
The downside is that this is a hotel for people with a car. We were driving from Meteora and had difficulty finding the hotel. The hotel management should probably offer very clear driving directions at their web site. Otherwise many visitors may have a hard time finding the hotel. Directions from Google did not seem to show the easiest route to the hotel.
Near the hotel, you can find plenty of nice tavernas, including at least 3 that offer paca soup. Also available is a bakery that has desserts made in Asia Minor style. Its founder was Huseyin, who passed away some time ago. We bought almond cookies (also known as Kavala style cookies) for friends and they stayed fresh for a very long time.
