In March 28th-3rd April. I booked a family for their Easter Holiday. My emails were replied fast and before they arrived, we were on talk with the hotel to ensure all was on control. the clients were picked from the airport and transferred to the hotel at no extra cost. An email i received from the clients on my followup of the tour, they enjoyed the service and felt at home while there since the staffs were friendly and they helped them learn bit of Italian words in exchange of Kiswahili words. the kids would spend hours in the pool as the instructor helped them learn swimming. the rooms were clean as the meals unforgettable.

The friendliness of Hotel stuff and management was just fantastic! We enjoyed every minute of our stay and look forward to going back there again in the near future. Great food, great facillities like a beautiful big pool and great value for money.

We have returned time and again to this gem of a hotel owned by the family for generations. a stunning pool, lovely home made food, simple but special in every possible way. We are planning to return there in July for another week. Our relationship with tis hotel is second to none and we will return again and again. I have travelled the world over and stayed at 5 star hotels for my job and find this a breath of fresh air. the staff are lovely, the owners perfect.

Room Tip: try and get the sea facing top rooms. the little beaches below are excellent, small inlets with grea...

We were invited to a wedding at this hotel and since our children are very small we decided to stay in the hotel itself so we could easily bring them back and forth as required. Wish we had read the reviews first! Our room was in what looked like an old converted house, not in the hotel itself.

Unsafe for children
As another poster said, this place is not suitable for small children, you have to park on the opposite side of a busy, winding road with no footpaths. The room was really small and had steps for my baby to practise climbing - I spent the whole time terrified of him falling on the (very hard) tiles. The plug points in the room were loose so I had to move furniture in front of them to prevent my baby from playing with them.

Slippery walkways
It was also raining while we were there - not blaming them for that but the tiles on the way up to the room are lethal in the rain, slippy as ice. Also the outdoor pools look lovely but there's absolutely nothing to do if it's raining.

Food
The food was mediocre and available very limited times -dinner started after my children's bedtimes and you have to drive to another town to find an alternative.

Falling apart
Ancient TVs working intermittently, batteries gone in remote control, curtains hanging off the rails, shower flooding due to blocked drain, generally tatty - lots of small irritants. The price doesn't reflect the standards.

In summary
It would have been alright - only alright - if it had just been myself and my husband. With children it's ridiculously expensive for what you get and pure dangerous if they're very young. The only good thing I'll say is the staff were lovely. They're fighting a losing battle though, it's in need of substantial renovation.

Never stay here! I've never been so happy to leave a hotel in my life.

We have just returned from 6 nights at San Diego Hotel in Maratea. We were a bit apprehensive as the reviews were not great but for the price we paid we weren't expecting much. We had a great stay - the staff are amazing, especially Francesca who was so friendly and happy and always willing to help and have a chat. The breakfast was not great and got slightly worse as the week wore on but we weren't going to let it ruin our holiday as everything else was great. The pool area is as lovely as the pictures suggest and we were on the 4th floor with a huge shared terrace. Would definitely recommend you request a room on the top floor if available. The views are incredible. We went in low season so the hotel was really quiet and not many people around so we were happy with that. It is remote, there are no shops nearby so you would need to go into town to stock up but it is cheap to get a taxi into Sapri - 10 euros return. If you are looking for a cheap get away then it is definitely worth it. We would stay there again if we return to Maratea.

Arriving with two very young children, we found the hotel very un child friendly. There is a main road which you have to cross to get to the pool and park which is very fast and on a bend. To be honest the park was also full of hazards, lots of stones so better for older kids. We changed rooms as the first we were given hada door which wouldnt stay shut and also steps in the room so wasnt great for my 1 and 2 year olds (altho it was a nice size room). There are a lot of steps in and around the hotel. You really need a car to be staying here as the nearest towns are about 7km in either direction and there are no paths to safely walk on. Breakfast was fine, croissants, yoghurt and coffee. We did eat in the hotel one night and it was not good so ate out after that. Having said that we attended my brothers wedding at the hotel (in a different part of the hotel set accross the roads amongst lovely gardens) and the wedding was perfect. The food was fantastic as was the reception room. The sceneary from the hotel is magnificent and the bar is reasonably priced. The pools are great, one was very shallow so perfect for toddlers. We were part of a large party (about 40) and we had to ask for the pool bar to be opened for us so we had somewhere to gather in the day and evenings. Beds were not comfy but the plus side was having a fridge in the room. Would def visit the area again but would stay somewhere within walking distance of more amenities.
