We really enjoyed our visit to the sanctuary & koala walk. We saw seven koalas in the trees, as well as numerous kangaroos, wallabies and exotic birds. We were lucky enough to see one of koalas climbing up a tree in search of fresh leaves. The kangaroos are very tame and will hop to within a few meters. This is a great stop on the way to or from Remarkable Rocks / Admiral's Arch. There is also a cafe that served tasty cakes. The staff were all very friendly and super-helpful.

This place was pretty special, and the wildlife seemed un phased by our presence (kool kangaroos), or too sleepy to care Koalas. I thought I might see one or two if I was lucky...I was very lucky indeed!

The Koala Walk was one of the highlights of our visit to Kangaroo Island. We went one morning and spent a full two hours spotting koalas in verious positions and states of awareness. We completely lost time among the spectacular gum grove. We got up to 28...don't rely merely on the markers put out by staff, there were only three of these when we were there, and venture to the edges of the grove. We booked a nocturnal visit the same day, which was convenient since it is only a five minute drive from the KI WIlderness Lodge where we were staying. The "walk" was really fun, seeing the koalas yes (although they were not much more active at night, it having been a very hot day), but also literally dozens and dozens of wallabies and kangaroos within a sanctuary and just outside the grove...practically stumbling upon them. Also many possum, small bats and an echidna. We came to KI for the wildlife rather than merely the views, and this was a highlight. The density of the koalas seems to be contrived, which the staff explain is slightly true...a local farmer planted the koala friendly eucalyptus decades ago and the sanctuary has enhanced the grove. KI "suffers" from koala overpopulation due to the absence of disease and this is a mini-paradise for them in terms of delicious leaves.

We did the koala day walk and we were lucky to see a couple of them. It was a very hot day 38+ and the koalas were sleeping pretty much low on the trees. We got to see a Koala climbing from one tree to another. After he went down the tree it took him about 30min. to climb on the next tree, it was so cute and funny to see him, as they move in slow motion. We got to see plenty of kangaroos and wallabies. Lots of colorful beautiful birds as well. We always went back to grab a cappuccino and sit outside, as they have picnic tables in front of the parking lot. We recommend to do this walk, but take your time to look carefully around.

Lots of wildlife to see echidna, wallabies, roos, birds but the koalas were hard to find during my visit. A bit disappointing but they are wild and, free to do their own thing. The echidna made up for it so did the great afternoon tea at the cafe. Beautifully clean and comfortable cafe and amenities.
