“Auckland stay”

The staff on duty the nigh and next morning were excellent. They were very helpful to us and are to be commended for the help they gave us. I have no tips or guidelines as I was very happy with the stay. If I had been staying another night or longer I would have liked a bigger room but we were only there from 1.30 am until checkout time the next morning.

We stayed between the Ibis & Novotel because we have two teenage daughters and the bedding arrangements at the Novotel are not family orientated! My older daughter and I stayed in the Ibis and my other daughter and husband stayed in the Novotel. We checked in and took our bags to our room in the Ibis and used the toilet but it wouldn't flush adequately. We went to reception and advised them straight away, the gentleman on reception wrote it down on a card and said he would get someone to look at it. We then went up to the Novotel room. We all came back down, went to back to our room in the Ibis and my husband tried to flush it and still it was very inadequate. We checked again at reception if someone had been to look at it, he again said he would get someone to look at it, so we left the premises to get some tea (they had probably had about an hour to sort it?). We arrived back around 10.15pm and asked at reception if the toilet in our room had been looked at yet, they said no, they were very sorry but there had been a burglary at reception, the ipod had been stolen off the counter and they had been busy dealing to that, but they will come and look at it now. Different staff now. Two staff members came into the room (Room 42??? - straight through doors on ground floor of Ibis). Scott ? got it to flush okay, but you had to wait 30 seconds and try again and only one side worked that he tried. Yay, we thought not a problem then. The staff were very helpful and offered to go and see if any other room was available in case we wanted to shift, however, it seemed to be working so no need to now. The lady on reception then returned with complimentary voucher for breakfast for all of us for the following morning. This was very kind and unexpected and appreciated. After they left and other family members went up to their room, we settled in for the night. Again after using the toilet, the flushing was very inadequate. You had to push the flusher in very hard to get it to work at all. But it was manageable. Also noted was that there appeared to be an exposed vent above the toilet that would benefit from being covered. On the whole although the toilet thing was annoying the staff were friendly and helpful.

Room was more than adequate for stay being clean and compact with good shared adjourning bar and restaurant facilities with Novotel. Excellent price for those who are ACCOR members. Good value for money!!!

The room is clean and comfortable. Free internet at the lobby is good.
Unfortunately, parking space is not enough.

We have stayed at both wings of this hotel now. That is the Novotel part and the Ibis part and unfortunately the later is way below the former.
The Ibis rooms are very small which is not helped by having King size beds in them and the bathroom area reminds me of a converted water tank.
The level of housekeeping was poor with bags of dirty linen sitting in the corridor all day and night on our first day and on our second day all our dirty towels were never removed from our room even though they were all on the shower floor in a big pile and the bathroom was still dirty with hair and used shampoo bottles not removed or changed.
However to give credit where due, on complaining about the situation above management dealt with it and also apologised in the form of free breakfast the next morning which was good customer service.
Also the guest laundry in this hotel was one of the worst I have used as the dryers either are worn out and dont get hot enough or the dry cycle is to short as even after using two tokens for a repeat dryer run my thicker clothes were still damp.Every other laundry I have uesd in a hotel only requires one cycle with the dryer let alone two and still poor results.
So on the whole I was charitable and rated this hotel average but for an extra 30 or 40 NZ$ go to the Novotel as the Ibis is a very poor cousin.

Room Tip: Dont book a room with the King size bed.

What more could you ask for. Cheap rooms in central location. The boys played golf on the 9 hole and the driving range right beside the hotel. The girls went shopping at Botany and Sylvia Park. Easy parking, excellent meal, rooms nicely refurbished from when we last stayed. Nice big king size bed.
