Cleburne Homestead

My Husband and I recently stayed in the Cottage and I can only say positive things about our stay there. Penelope was a wonderful host and we ended up chatting over breakfast for several hours. The Cottage was everything we expected a mixture of that unique Tasmanian Historical quaintness and yet was still clean and modern. Lovely sheets and the roaring fire was awesome. Thankyou Penelope for a really special stay and we would happily return next visit.

Room Tip: We loved the Cottage though all the other buildings are very pretty.

I just want to say that this place it is really nice to stay!!!!! I went with my husband and my parents. We stay in the cottage, it is really good place for a couple with 1 or 2 children, because they do not have two queens beds there; However, my husband and I did not mind staying in single beds because the house and the people there were awesome with us. The cottage was really clean and have a fireplace which is fixed every day, so you do not have to worry about the wood ;). Again thank you very much for giving us a wonderful time ;)

We stayed in the old Stable at Cleburne which is very rustic and charming - even the horse feed troughs remain! The old stone walls and floors are amazing, however I felt a little claustrophobic as the room and bathroom are very limited in space - there is one small window. We tried keeping the stable door open, however the traffic noise was off putting as the property is surrounded by a freeway. Given this, we went into Hobart for dinner which is only a short 15 minutes or so drive. If you are interested in MONA, then Cleburne is approximately a 5 minute drive away.
When we returned from dinner to retire, a cold draft was coming in from under the stable door as the stone flooring is uneven, but I guess this is to be expected from a building of its age.
The main Cleburne Homestead retains all its charm and characterists of its day. We were served a pleasant breakfast in the dining room. The host, Penelope, was friendly and accommodating.
Cleburne Homestead is located on several acres containing farm animals and gives a country feeling, but as it is encircled by a highway (as the buildings were spared demolition) and to me, it felt a little odd.

Room Tip: The Stable is close to the highway so if you are a light sleeper, then perhaps stay in one of the ot...

Stayed for two nights as family (2 adult, 1 little boy) in 'The Barn'. We were very lucky to have squeezed in over the Valentine's Day weekend but we were very glad we did. The Homestead is encircled by the main hwy which concerned me a bit initially regarding traffic noise but, in fact, it is a fantastic oasis and the hwy really makes no impact at all. Our little boy's eye's nearly shot out of his head as we pulled in and he saw the alpacas and geese and David (our host, along with Penelope) was gracious enough to ask him to 'help' feed them on the two mornings we were there. Penelope did the same for the kittens which he is still talking about! The Barn was perfect for the three of us for two nights although more than that would have started to get a bit cramped. Breakfast was great and the location was perfect to access Hobart, MONA and Port Arthur. One of the best little holidays we've had!

Stayed here for two nights on the recommendation of friends. Loved this place. Seemed to compliment our visit to Mona well as I enjoyed viewing the art in our room and also in the shared spaces. Our rooms were great - white washed walls with some great art. Comfy bed, good quality linen, large bath etc. Enjoyed hanging out in the gardens with the geese, alpacas and peacocks. Terrific breakfast and lovely conversation with Penelope and David. Was initially concerned about traffic noise however this didn't bother me at all. Highly recommend this place.

Penelope and David were wonderful hosts and our four days at Cleburne Homestead were a highlight of our two weeks in Tasmania. The gourmet breakfasts and Penelope's efficient and friendly service could not be faulted.
The suites were just lovely.
We were two couples and all agreed Cleburne can be highly recommended.

We stayed at Cleburne Homestead in December 2012 and were delighted with the beautifully renovated farmhouse which retains all of its character but has a modern twist. For example our room contained an original bakers oven from its days as the bakers residence which added history and interest while our bathroom was modern and luxurious. The stone walls were still visible but were decorated with original pieces of modern art. The homestead is within easy driving distance of Hobart and Penelope was on hand to make sure we enjoyed our stay and to provide delicious and different breakfasts. I would certainly recommend the Cleburne Homestead and hope to stay there again.
