Description: The Purangi Winery was established in 1985 the 37th Winery in New Zealand. The Evans Family who moved from Hong Kong were welcomed as settlers by the district in 1966. After buying land from the Harsant and Wigmore Families and opening and operating the Hahei store and later in 1972 the 60 acres where the winery is located was farmed running pigs, cows, sheep and goats, then planted supplying the Auction Markets with table grapes, kiwifruit, garlic and fresh produce. When the land was cleared originally organic principles were adopted. Our products are made in the traditional manner with purest ingredients hence the company name Purangi Estate Ltd or "PurEst". In 2009 we built a wood fired pizza oven and launched the Purangi Winery Pizzeria which has been more and more popular. We produce many of the ingredients for the pizzas, making the pesto and pizza sauce and using a wide range of fresh herbs and vegetables from our garden. We try to keep it simple and have something for everyone. We customize our pizzas so that YOU want to eat it. + Gluten free and Vegan options available. + Fresh seasonal additions on our specials board Our bar in the Coromandel invites you to enjoy all our homemade products: Cider, Wines, Long Drinks and (in winter) Mulled Wine as well as a wide range of national and international beers. Relax in our family friendly environment under the kiwifruit vines, enjoy the sun in summer, sit next to our brazier in winter or find a cosy place inside close to our potbelly stove. + Table Tennis, Table Soccer, Darts, Petonque, Kubb (Viking chess).

“Quirky and delicious”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2014

We had a delicious pizza lunch at the Purangi Winery. I like the limited menu options - pizza or pizza with chips! We sat out under the shade of a kiwifruit vine and watched as our pizza was popped into the pizza oven, then brought straight to our table on a wooden board when it was ready. And the pizza was scrumptious. The wine drinker in our group tried a Purangi Sav with the pizza and enjoyed it so much we had to go into the wine cellar so she could purchase a couple of bottles. And we were encouraged to try the feijoa liqueur, which was so tasty that we had to then buy a bottle to share with our friends back home! Good for families as there is plenty of outdoor space for kids to roam about, plus a table tennis table indoors.

“Quaint little winery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2013

We stopped at Purangi Winery for lunch and wine tasting. The building is rustic and one of those places you think of when someone says let's find a quaint place to stop. The young man behind the bar is a character - lots of fun. He guessed our nationality by asking how we pronounce some words and encouraged us to try the local wines. He introduced us to feijoa fruit and had us sample the wine made from feijoa. We bought three bottles to take back to the states because it was so good. We sat outside under the trees and enjoyed a tasty wood-fired pizza and ginger beer which is similar to ginger ale in the U.S. It was a pleasant experience and definitely should be on your to-do list if you are in the area.

“A must stop”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2013 via mobile

Stopped in on our way back from cathedral cove and pulled in for a drink. We got a lot more than we bargained for, Open door wine cellar. A combination of a wine tasting and a nz culture lesson in one. The guy behind the bar (perhaps owner) was very entertaining. Highly recommend there feijoa Liqueur!

“Unique experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2013

Purangi isn't just a winery - it's an experience! From the moment we walked in the rustic door, we were made to feel right at home; we tasted wine and liquers (and learnt about the feijoa!) while waiting for our wood oven pizza to cook... which was one of the best I've had! Beautiful fresh toppings and crispy base. After lunch, we played a spot of table tennis and patted the winery cat before leaving with some great wines, full bellies and lovely memories! We'd definitely go out of our way to visit Purangi again!
