We booked Saturday lunch at Sunnybrae, after reading about it online. It's a cokkery school, which offers top notch five-course lunches on Saturdays and Sundays. It's tucked away in the middle of nowhere, on Cape Otway Road, and isn't an area we would normally frequent. So we tied it in with a trip to Cape Otway and the Great Ocean Road.
The ambience and food were both exquisite, and the service was impeccable. They use the best, freshest local produce, some of which they grow themselves. The menu is well-balanced and the portion sizes are perfect - we didn't feel we had over-indulged, partly because the courses are well-planned, spaced out, and not rich. One thing we did notice is that it's not particularly well-suited to vegetarians though - they do need to improve their vegetarian offerings. My husband ordered a risotto, which was disappointing (undercooked and tasteless. I think chefs sometimes assume vegetarians have no tastebuds!). Other than that though, the food and the setting were both lovely, and we felt it was good value, too.
