Frankly I was very sceptical after I went thru all the reviews in TripAdvisor. Hence before the trip I had a verification done with the hotel. The booking was done by " WeekendTrips Kolkata" a very friendly travel agency with extremely high level of service plus the owner happens to be a personal friend.

Coming back the location of the hotel is a bit dicey, if u do have navigators then pin down their co-ordinates. From the main road leading to Diamon Harbour, you have to take a right turn from fatehpur and then u follow this road till u reach the hotel. I think the SD 83 bus stand can be a decent landmark.

The property is awesome, very tastefully constructed, with a nice swimming pool in the middle. Rooms are comfortable though not very big and decor is a bit garish to my standard. But overall it gives a wonderful relaxing kind of a feel, and you may tend to overlook the pink sofas like I did. Two things which gives you a rough idea on the seriousness of investment is the AC and the food. The AC was of LG and food was fantastic.

Their Indian / Bengali preparation was very nice, and coupled with our hunger turned out to be yummylicious. After lunch we did have a gala time in the pool and kids were having a fun time. In the evening there’s nothing much u can do other than hitting the bar or swimming.

The breakfast was adequate with poori sabzi and toast and eggs. Overall I was extremely happy with the friendliness of the staffs, they went out of their way to make us comfortable. Best of luck guys.

Room Tip: Always ask for the river view roooms 210 onwards in the 2nd floor.

I booked Ritz Riviera through their agent Rakibul Hossain (mobile number 983122999) in mid May for me and my friends (we were 4 families altogether) for a holiday on 15th and 16th of June. At the onset, let it be told that the hotel doesnt have a website of any kind and the only contact that you get of the hotel is this phone number and name of Rakibul Hossain across various web pages (Just Dial, Yellow Pages India etc).

Rakibul Hossain and his partner Subhendu came to my office and collected an advance of Rs.2000 in mid May and confirmed the booking against a receipt which mentioned Ritz Riviera, the number of rooms, the date of travel etc.

Between mid May and the travel date of 15th June, I have had multiple conversations with Rakibul Hossain and Subhendu and there was nothing to doubt about the reservation.

To our surprise, when we landed up at the hotel on 15th June around 1 p.m, we were told by the hotel that there was no booking in our name. We showed the slip, the receipt and the hotel said that Rakibul Hossain is an agent of another company and that he is not a hotel employee.

Yet, there were a lot of discrepancies in this story.

Firstly, the hotel showed us email conversations between Rakibul Hossain and the hotel which means they knew each other. Secondly some of the staff mentioned that Rakibul Hossain had done something like this before with other families.

Imagine our plight with tired and hungry children!

We tried calling Rakibul Hossain but he had switched off his phone by then. The hotel - in fact - provided us of his alternate number!!! But that was also switched off by then.

There is no doubt that the hotel is in cohorts with this Rakibul Hossain.

When we told the hotel to write it down on their letterhead that they dont have anything to do with Rakibul Hossain, they refused.

When we tried calling some Mr.Anuj, the GM of the hotel, he didnt take our call. Later he called us and abused us for wanting them to write the same down.

Till today, Just Dial and Yellow Pages India has the phone number and details of Rakibul Hossain listed on the Ritz Riviera contact pages. If the hotel has nothing to do with this Hossain, they could have taken disciplinary action against such sites and had this removed.

This is a total fraud place. Avoid it like the plague.

Avoid Ritz Riviera in Falta at all costs. Reception and management left my wife, young daughter and myself along with 3 other friends' families stranded on Father's Day refusing to honor a prepaid reservation made through one of their approved agents despite having a receipt for this reservation. Bunch of thugs to say the least.

We had located an agent, Rakibul Hossain who according to his documentation is an approved agent of theirs. My friend had called him and paid him in cash and received a receipt for the reservation and payment with the Ritz Riviera's name of it.

Imagine our surprise after several hours of driving and arriving hot and exhausted, ready to get to our hotel room, when, we received one of the rudest and coldest welcome when we arrived at the Ritz Riviera. When we checked in, the front desk clerk rudely and coldly told us that they are not aware of the existence of any Rakibul Hossain and that this prepaid booking was null and void despite having a receipt with the hotel's name on it. The front desk and management was supremely rude and unhelpful and I can not imagine how they can stay in business if they treat customers this way - espescially families with young daughters standing there. Since they refused to honor, this prepaid booking, we immediately requested a refund which was denied. We insisted we speak with the GM of the hotel and first was denied repeatedly. Finally, we were connected via phone supposedly with someone who said they were the GM of the hotel and that he was in Dingha. He said they would accomodate us and the booking. However, after saying this and stating this, he disappeared and would not answer further calls. Despite this "GM"'s assurance that they would accomodate the booking, the hotel on site staff continued to deny us our room and our prepaid booking. Throughout this exhausting and draining experience, we were left standing in their lobby with our young child and our bags and no one once attempted to resolve the situation. The guy named "Kallol" was the kingpin and seemdd a real pro in hoodwinking customers right left and center.

The hotel continued to fraudently deny our paid reservation with receipt and continued to state they did not know Advance Hospitality Kolkata and Rakibul Hossain and refused any further assistance.

Upon seeing that we were being scammed and had had our money stolen and ourselves and our young daughter stranded, we contacted our contacts in the media and legal arenas which the hotel staff overheard and started the process of getting the media and lawyers and police involved.

We left the hotel and luckily found accomodations elsewhere.

Imagine our surprise when a day later, some one from Rakibul Hossain's office refunds the booking amount.

So questions we should now ask - if they really did not know who Rakibul Hossain was - how did the money get refunded? hence, that actually establishes the nexus between the hotel and their so-called agent.

This hotel is uncaring, cold, determined to hoodwink you and extract additional funds from you by claiming to not recognize a valid and prepaid booking with their name on the receipt. It's a major scam.

Avoid this hotel and their "agent", Rakibul Hossain at all costs.

If you are planning your next weekend trip to Ritz Riviera, Falta, (West Bengal) please think twice. Me and my friends had a horrible experience last weekend at this popular resort just 40 kms from Kolkata.

We were denied rooms when we reached there in spite of prior bookings. We had booked three rooms almost a month back and carried valid receipt from their booking agent in Kolkata. Even we had called the person Mr. Rakibul Hossain, who did the booking the night before and on our way to the resort. Everything was perfect till we reached there.

At the reception we were told the resort is already overbooked due to some medical conference and they cannot accommodate us. To save their skin they said this person Rakibul Hussain is no more connected with them and they did not confirm him the booking. We called up Rakibul only to find his mobile switched off. We challenged the staffs how come they collect money and book your resort without having your affiliation? We asked them to give us a denial or regret letter so that we can take up the matter legally with their agent. But they and their invisible GM who only spoke over the phone, denied us. Some of their staff informed us that such incidents are not new and has occurred quite a few times before. Surprisingly, they never took any action against these fraudulent activity neither did they cooperate with us.

It was really frustrating for us and specially for the kids who were ready to take a plunge in the pool as soon as they reach the resort. Forget the pool, now we don't even have a room to stay!

My personal inference of the entire incident is: the resort was well aware of our booking. Since they had a medical conference which led to full occupancy of their resort, they denied us rooms (though we had booked much earlier than the conference deal) and passed the buck to their agent . Now the best part - yesterday morning someone had sent the refund amount of our booking to my friends office. It confirmed my belief that it is a nexus between the Ritz Reviera, Falta resort and their booking agent in Kolkata.

Nice weekend retreat. The property is not very old. Till now maintained. Swimming pool, Hooka bar is nice and enjoyable. Food is good. Service can be improved. From Kolkata road is good for driving. River Hooghly can be seen from the room. Very nice experience. So boat riding is also easily possible.
