We were on our honeymoon trip in New Zealand and we spent our last 3 nights in Warwickz Farm. It’s been an amazing experience.
Location: great location, it’s by the main road (route #1) and it’s just 40 minute drive from Christchurch downtown and airport. Rolleston is just 10 minute drive away – a beautiful small town with supermarket, cafeteria, and everything you need (definitely try out the Indian restaurant there)
Owner: Chris has been superb nice and attentive. I can totally see his passion in his business. He took great care of all the animals, pets in his farm and he’s never reluctant to show you around and tell you all the interesting stories about them. We had a nice BBQ outside the barn and he’s been superb helpful in help us setting up the fire and stuff. It was our honeymoon trip and they’ve even given us a bottle of bubbly and home-made muffins with a lovely heart on them, very very lovely and considerate.
The Barn: it’s superb beautiful, a bit small but cozy. At night, when you look up into the sky, you pretty much see the Milky Way most of the time, which is amazing. We’re thrilled that we spent the whole night taking pictures on the barn with the Milky Way. It’s absolutely beautiful. It would have been perfect if they’ve a kitchen in the room – they’re not really doing dinner regularly for the guests and we do plan to just stay in there and relax and not needing to go to town for food. Bed is a bit small too but I had my highest quality sleep there though.
Animals: it’s more than 200 animals with over 40 different species, we went for the alpacas but it turned out Robbie and Rosie (their grass eating pigs) are our favorite. They had such a great character – eat whatever you feed them and always run to you when you call them (even when they’re sleeping).
Before we visited the Warwickz Farm, we have checked on internet on many other farms. Some are more specialized (like those have only alpacas or some are real working farms which only feed cattle and sheep on site) and some are more accommodating (they run it more like a family B&B with hotel-like room rather than a real farm). Warwickz is actually more real to me as they are serious on their business but yet they’re not very commercial. Chris did such a great job in introducing his animals to us but yet he never try to sell their farm products (wools, etc) to us.
To sum up, farm stay is definitely what you want to do when you’re in the country and Warwickz is definitely have a great balance in everything. Afterall, owner makes all the difference. Keep it up, Chris!
