The fee was low but the staff were not particularly friendly or welcoming. Bus seemed unreliable and was hot and uncomfortable. Actual setting was nice, but a bit offputting to see all of the warning signs against swimming. Views were nice and few good photo opportunities. Would have been much nicer to have been able to drive up closer to the actual site and experience it that way. Lots of signs preventing you from entering areas, only a few areas can actually be accessed by visitors. Can say that I have been there and done that but dont think I would bother to visit again.

the entrance fee is nominal, from the visitor centre a (frequent) free shuttle takes you to the hiking trails; there are long hike options, we took the short one and enjoyed it thoroughly--lots of photo ops. a swim in the crystal clear water below the rapids was so refreshing in such hot weather, we thought it was a terrific and low-cost outing.

The Gorge has a number of wonderful attractions: there are some Great trees to see for those who like me appreciate such things, there is one swimming hole which would rank among the most romantic spots I have visited especially if you are lucky enough to have it to yourselves for a while, swimming in the river closer to the car park is also a treat for the senses surrounded as you are by the rainforest.

I had not been to Mossman Gorge prior to the road closure and therefore cannot comment on the difference, but the fee for a return trip on the shuttle is not so much especially if it is what is paying for the maintenance of the elevated boardwalks through the forest and the other paths. Infrastructure is costly to install and maintain, what has been done is tasteful and will help preserve the natural beauty of the Gorge. Sites of natural beauty as seen in the gorge need care so the many can enjoy them I hope this is what will result from the regulation of traffic.

Whatever your opinion of having to pay a pittance to enter there are things here which should not be missed.

The visitors centre is a newly built building and looks amazing with Indigenous art on display, there are two choices to get the gorge, walk the 2kms from the visitors centre or take the short shuttle ride for $4.80. I have been here previously when you could drive up closer and avoid the walk/shuttle I feel that if you have to be routed through the visitors centre there could be some commentary from the driver or more information for your money. The staff at the centre were very friendly however.

I've traveled to Mossman Gorge previously, but was very disappointed to see what has changed! The main road to the gorge has been closed to traffic around 2.5km from the gorge, and you are forced to go through the visitor information center. You have to pay a fee to go on a packed shuttle bus, which runs unreliably, and not on time, or walk the 2.5km in the humidity and heat uphill!! We deliberately hired a car from cairns, to avoid buses and allow a personalized romantic experience, but this was not the case. The gorge itself is beautiful as always, but the experience with shuttle buses very poor. If the reason this has been put in place is for he environment, and to sustain the natural beauty of the area, then that's great, but the service should be free, not a money making exercise. I wont be back in a hurry, and would not recommend the experience, but if you want to visit - maybe try find a tour organizer who has direct access to the gorge instead.
