The waterfalls are nice, but don't try to compare them with Iguasu or Victoria falls. The place is nice but may be since we visited on Sunday (entrance fee is free for locals everywhere) the place was badly overcrowded. The road to the falls is serpentine, so it takes a while to get there, even though it is only 65-67 km from the Palenque ruins. If you stay overnight in Palenque it worth the visit, but if you head somewhere else afterwards combining it with the ruins might be very time consuming.

I would not say spectacular waterfalls compared to Iguazu Falls or Niagara but it was a pleasant break from all the archeological ruins and sites! Lots of shopping if you want good bargains for local arts and crafts and leather goods. I wished I bought more here because it got more expensive in Palanque and Chichen Itza!

There were lots of people swimming, but I didn't go in the waters!

We had the worst fish meal here though at one of the local restaurants. Not worth 130pesos at all. Cold bland and not palatable.

Although several cascades in the region, these ones are spectacular and singular in their type. Five or six different ones, but not easy to find them: look for a guide, quite unexpensive, 2 or 3 dlls. Worth it! Do not stay onlt with the one you'll see as entering the park, the hidden ones are must impressive.

The falls are quite impressive and fairly clean (you do see a few plastic cups...grrr...but if you pick them up and throw them in one of the provided cans, you see them no more:D). The water is beautiful even when it's more of a green due to heavy rainfalls. Not too impressed with the food in the restaurants...30 pesos for agua de horchata made from powder?! :P The fried bananas are great. Worth the trip out from Palenque...it might be better to go with a tour than on your own. We took a tour from Palenque and there was a family that chose to leave their car and go on the tour because they had problems with people setting up roadblocks between San Cristóbal and Palenque and charging them to use the road.

If you hike all the way up to the swimming area ... with a little bit of luck you can swim in the pristine river alone or nearly alone for a few minutes.

The waterfalls are nice to watch and the coconuts on sale are refreshing.

But the crowds and crowds of bused in tourists are a bit overwhelming.
