Palenque is a true Mexican tourist town and generally caters to the Mexican market. Accommodation is limited in choice in Palenque, but this was a good one for us. Located in La Canada - the best part to be, away from the bustle of city life in downtown. Convenient for ADO, catching collectivos and a short walk into town as well.
The hotel is clean, comfortable - the rooms are being re-tiled, so ours was spotless. Staff are helpful although speak limited english.
Cons - very noisy while we were there. Families with children crying through the night, and then up at 6am, another couple watching TV till 11pm and then on their phone or skype at 2am in the middle of the night. You can hear everything - little sound protection. Take earplugs just in case.
Nevertheless, we would stay there again as good value and good location.
The seafood restaurant next door is good - queues of people waiting for seats all afternoon. The cafe down by the bridge has good breakfasts. Not a lot of variety in restaurants in Plaenque either but these were 2 we quite liked.
Go to Aluxes Animal Refuge Ecopark - great way to spend 2-3 hours!

Room Tip: Rooms at the end of the corridors have a window - only over a back garde, but makes the room a bit lighter, and you might have less neighbours

A perfect little place that's conveniently located a comfortably short distance from the ADO bus station. If you stay there, don't take a taxi from the ADO bus terminal, unless you absolutely have to. Nice room maybe a tad small, but for the price that's acceptable. Soap and shampoo is supplied. Very nice and clean bathroom.
No breakfast, and hot water is lukewarm much of the time. I did not mind, since it's hot and humid outside.
Free coffee is available for a ridiculous 10 minutes around 6 am. The personnel is very friendly, and a couple of computers are on hand for guests. A restaurant is in house, but there are alternatives all around. WiFi is free.
English is definitely not spoken here, nor in most businesses in town. Have the little phrase book on hand. And, also true for any establishment around here, have mosquito repellent with you. From the nearby intersection by the large Maya Head sculpture, you can catch a collectivo to the excellent Palenque ruins. No tour necessary. Tours, however, are arranged through the hotel, or you can go to anyplace in town and arrange your own, as I did for Yaxilan and Bonampac, which included very nice meals.

This review is 4 vs. 5-star -- not from a fault at the hotel -- because I am reviewing for US and Canadian visitors, some of whom are not likely to embrace this small, locally-owned accommodation and/or its location.

The hotel is spotlessly clean and the staff is friendly, helpful and genuinely curious about the lifestyles and home towns of their visitors. The facility shows age but is well maintained and has undergone some upgrades from the original construction. (They were pulling cable for a webcam while I was there, so check the hotel website for that.) Rooms are small yet very sufficient. Each has AC, ceiling fan, good privacy and plenty of hot water. However, the limited English capacity of the staff may be a problem for you and, if you want to watch TV (Why would you with all of the nightlife in the area?!), the cable stations broadcast primarily in Espanol.

La Canada is a small tourist zone at the edge of Palenque Centro. The major supermarket (Chedraui) as well as in-town shops, restaurants and transit stations are a few blocks away. The area contains a number of hotels, restaurants, bars, and late-night clubs with live music.

Another option for lodging in Palenque is the archaeological zone a few kilometers away. The hotels there stand in a forested area and the experience is much different from staying in town. Palenque has excellent bus and collectivo service, so nothing is far or inaccessible. I stayed in both areas on my recent visit and prefer the zona archeologica with its swawking parrots and howler monkeys playing in the trees, its rain forest beauty and its peacefulness.

Room Tip: Request a room on the second floor of the main building.

Hey travelmates :-)

I stayed in Hotel Xibalba for three nights, nothing to complain about. Hotel Xibalba is located in a small cobble stone side street, surrounded by plenty of trees which grant some nice refreshing shadow. My room was clean and equipped with ceiling fan, air con and TV (although some channels could not received properly). City center is in walking distance, and there are some good restaurants in the same street. Service is friendly and helpful (speak spanish!!!!). PC with internet is also available + a parking lot.
I would not call it super modern oder super new/luxury, but it fitted my demands perfectly (safe, clean, quiet, not too expensive). Good base to see Palenque ruins, the cascades or to move on to San Cristobal.
Breakfast not included, but available. The restaurant I cannot judge (tried to spread the money :-))

I had a room on the ground floor, which can be a little bit noisy if the staff starts the morning business.

Fritz

Room Tip: Pick a room which does not face the street (maybe street noise) or on ground floor, and not one on the top floor (highest sun heat impact)

This hotel was quiet, clean and has a cuteness factor. The staff were ok, but I am sure I met the owner and we was eager to please. The location is excellent for walking to the Bus station, taking a collectivo or Taxi and you can even walk to a large grocery store in about 20 minutes. All amenities worked well, there were plenty of towels. We were very pleased with our stay here and would recommend to anyone staying in Palenque. Our room at the back of the hotel didn't feel overly secure, with the back door and open field out our window, but it was nice and quiet.
