“Expensive, old and noisy”
Reviewed February 10, 2014

We stayed here just one night because we had some problems at the Chablis Hotel... they sent us to this hotel but would not accept again.
It is huge but old. Rooms are too big and TV is really small and old. Beds are OK as well as the bathroom, everything was clean.
It's better years are gone.
The main problem was the noise at night. Our room was in front of a bar, on a corner and it was very very difficult to sleep.
I would´n stay here again

Room Tip: Do not accept rooms in front of the bar at the corner. They play music all night long

Dear sir,
Our daily spirit is to provide the best service at the best price for you. The hotel has many years in business, however we are in constant refurbishing in order to make a great lodging experience to every person who stays in Maya Tulipanes.
Every televisión we have ire an LCD 39" flat screen, and rooms has windows with isolation to noise. Sometimes other clients makes more noise that is quite difficult to diminish at the moment. Sorry about that.
Hope you enjoyed Palenque.
All the best.
Carlos

We were on a 3-week tour of the Lost World of the Mayans and our small group (9) stayed here two nights. We were there to explore Palenque and the hotel is a short drive away. Our room was upstairs along a corridor with no outside window, in other words our window faced the inside corridor. Perhaps that was good because we heard very little noise from the outside. Our group arrived around 5 PM and there was no hot water. The front desk was very accommodating and eventually it was turned on. The lobby is lovely but has no roof and there had been a great deal of rain (it rained on and off during our tour of Palenque), which made it impossible to sit in the lobby. I was able to use the internet in our room. We tend not to watch television when we travel, but there was a large, flat screen TV in the room. The room itself was basic, clean. The bathroom was fine. Our first night's dinner at the hotel was good, especially the flan. The next day we all decided that after a late, big lunch we only wanted soup and flan. The vegetable soup was delicious.

My boyfriend and I spent an incredile time in this authentic, friendly environment! The food, the staff, overall the service was really good! I even got to try delicious ethnic Mayan dishes (Nopal with melted fresh cheese and a touch of green chile ). The rooms were very clean and the beds were very comfortable . If you want a real mexcican experience with a touch of a Mayan culture I recomend this hotel!

The hotel is ok for a 4* in Palenque, but I felt as they do not trust their customers. They hand you the remote for TV and air condition and they expect them back from you at check out. Although a common practice last century, today seems a little bit odd. Then when ordering room service each time they want to see your id. Odd!!
Food good, however I ordered a spaghetti bolognese, and I received another type of spaghetti, which do not correspond to bolognese. If they want to invent a new type is ok, just mame it differently! Maybe Maya spaghetti or something like it. When I demand tomato sauce as it should be in a bolognese spaghetti, they brought me ranchero sauce! Andale, andale, andale....

Room Tip: Second or third floors are quieter.

The good stuff: extremely friendly and attentive staff, nice common areas, close to lots of restaurants and an easy ride to the ruins. The hotel restaurant is nice.
The bad: the decor is pretty tacky, although so tacky that I was amused by it (think of a painting of the Palenque ruins with a giant jaguar roaring in the foreground). However, the quality of the bed linens is poor... although our sheets and towels were clean, the bed spread was not. We woke up constantly during the night/wee hours because of dogs barking, cars starting, people whispering in the passageway.
I would recommend it if you are just staying for one night to see the ruins.

Room Tip: Try to get a room behind the reception area, not by the pool/parking lot.

My wife and I spent two nights here during a tour on the Mayan archeological site at Palenque. The hotel is situated close to other small hotels. It has a nice swimming pool in a courtyard. The air conditioning works and the shower is hot. The room is clean although sparely decorated. The beds are hard. The porter who helped with our luggage seemed to have no idea where our room was. Also he flung my suitcase around without regard for the safety of its contents to the point where I had to admonish him. The room has a small flat panel TV. Good lights for reading in bed at night. The breakfast included was quite good. Try the chicken empanadas. The restaurant is posted to open at 8am but did not do so the first day we were here for breakfast causing guests to eat elsewhere.

The good: the hotel is located in leafy "La Canada" just outside of the main Palenque town and provides good access to Mayan ruins including Palenque, Yaxchilian, etc. There are several good restaurants (e.g., Maya Canada) just steps away and a nice coffee house is adjacent to the hotel. The staff is very nice and provides 24-hour guest services at the front desk as well as lock-up of valuables. The breakfast was tasty. The not-so-good: did not have hot water throughout the stay; water pressure was very weak; and no safe in room. The WiFi did not work in the hotel room and at times did not work in public areas.

Room Tip: Stay away from pool side rooms to avoid noise. The hotel is very busy in the afternoon when groups...
