“Very nice, still within walking distance to downtown Palenque, nice open buffet restaurant”
Reviewed August 11, 2011

Very nice hotel with beautiful grounds and gardens, still within comfortable walking distance to the Zocalo or within just two minute taxi ride. Tour groups often enjoy the buffet for breakfast and dinner, which was pretty decent actually considering how many groups and therefore people were there. The rooms are nice and big, offer free Wifi, cable tv, a/c and there’s some really nice arts and crafts vendors in the little plaza in front of the hotel. The hotel lies in a huge fenced in park area and they have a nice pool too.

This place is very pretty with a happy, helpful staff. It is very large, and comfortable. The pool is centrally located behind the sprawling restaurant. Prices are higher, but the service is quick and professional. It is very, very clean. There is a significant mosquito problem, our first night we were eaten alive in our room. It is distinctly cool to hear the monkeys howling at dawn. The bathrooms were surprisingly rudimentary in light of the detail in every other part of the hotel.

Room Tip: Large, clean, casually elegant

Well, we stayed at this hotel as part of our tour throughout the Yucatan peninsula and from the outside everything looks fine. The pool, the entrance, the park around the hotel all transmit the 5 stars that the hotel advertises itself with. As soon as you enter the rooms, the picture changes. The style reminds of a hotel, all rooms have 2 queen size beds, an old TV and western style doors to the bathroom as well as a window to the floor which really sucks. The beds are quite comfortable but another downer comes with the power plugs, as there aren't many around or if, they are located behind furniture. Thumbs up on the other hand for the food. We had breakfast and dinner included for both nights and the buffet offered a wide variety of nicely prepared food and lots of different cakes for desert. The hotel itself is located just outside the city center, a supermarket is a 5min walk away and going to the center takes about 10-12min.

Mision Palenque has small rooms and it's in the middle of the jungle, so there might be bugs or mosquitoes in the hotel. There is 2 netbooks free of use in the lobby for internet
and there is a good dinner buffet with lots of selection.
The room only has one electrical socket, has air conditioning and a TV with some English channels. The thin walls in the rooms makes it hard to sleep at night.
Hairdryer is upon request and currency exchange at the front desk is available after 10pm. Laundry is available and there a a pool . Overall it's not the Hilton, but should be ideal for a short stay.

Definiately too expensive for its value. It is an old and crap hotel with unprofessional service. There are far better choices close to archeologic site.

The hotel is in a great location, it's quiet, and the property is attractive. However, the walls and floors are paperthin and you can hear everything - including your neighbors coming home late at night.
In addition the cost does not include breakfast, which is 125 P per person. The food is not worth that kind of money. The oj wasn't even fresh, etc.
You can do better for $80+ a night.

Without a doubt, this hotel in Palenque or Chiapas is the best hotel in town -- a very tiny village of perhaps 2000 people. It feel like you're at the edge of a jungle, and overall it's a nice hotel with a nice pool and spa.

What I did not like were as follows:
(1) buffet dinners were not good -- they tended to serve leftovers from the previous day and were sometimes cold since they didn't heat it up well. Left over ratatouille vegetables from the night before would be cooked with eggs and served during breakfast. In the 2 nights there, I saw food recycled in various ways or served the way it was the previous time.

(2) in my hotel room, the door to the bathroom fell off the hinges and barely stayed together.

(3) the showers in the bathroom was very inconsistent. As long as no one else was showering in neighboring rooms, you had hot water; otherwise not only would you not have hot water, the water pressure would go from a regular spray to a trickle.

(4) their gym comprises of 2 pieces of equipment behind their spa

They have a spa which is 5-10 minute walk down a cobbled stone path across a wobbly, but charming bridge accompanied by the sounds of howling monkeys (that sound like jaguars roaring).

It's about a 15 minute to the downtown area, and if you're into shopping for handicraft, emboidered goods, this is probably a good place to get them at good prices. Shop around by checking a few stores for pricing before making a purchase as some of the prices will vary greatly. It's safe to walk to town and back. It's about 25 pesos to take a taxi to town.

Despite all the issues with the hotel, there was no other comparable hotel in the village, so this is it in terms of nicest hotel. It's probably comparable with a Holiday Inn or Best Western in the US.

One good bonus is the hotel provides free wireless Internet.

If you're visiting the fabulous Palenque ruins, then I would recommend this place as there's no other 4 star hotel, though it's really a 3 star hotel in my opinion.
