Lovely, clean, simple bungalow at a great price in the middle of the jungle! it's only 10 mins from palenque bus station and right on the edge of the park where the ruins are. it's quiet and cozy, we had a nice simple room with 2 single beds and it was perfect. the only thing they lack is a common space with hammocks to hang out in! but the whole place was really nice, no mosquitos in the rooms, good fan kept us very cool. we ate all our meals at don mucho's which was pretty good and reasonably priced.

We spent 4 nights in an en-suite room with matrimonial bed and a/c. The a/c was a must! The room was clean and spacious and set back in the jungle, so we had absolutely no problems with noise. (We'd been warned about noise from the bars and roaming drinkers, and Margarita had advised this room.) Margarita was gracious and a delight to meet. She speaks English, so booking via phone was easy once we tracked down the phone number. No problems with bugs in the room, though the mosquitoes were plentiful outside. An extra treat was seeing the firefly-like beetles jetting around outside our room at night. We ate at Don Muchos every meal. If you have time for the jungle tour with Gabriel, take it! He has a small stand inside the front entrance to the restaurant. He'll spot things anyone less familiar with the flora and fauna might miss, speaks fluent English, and will literally dance you through the jungle with grace.

Room Tip: Request a room in the jungle if you want a quiet night. We would not have survived the jungle humidi...

We spent one night there when visiting Palenque, and then we spend a second one when returning from San Cristobal de las Casas.
The place is incredible!! You are just in the middle of the jungle, you can breath the jungle air. The cabins are much cleaner than we would expect. There is a place to eat and have breakfast which is really cheap and good. And during the evening you can even hear live music there.
Is trully a very special place!
Also, the sleeping quality is excellent (unless the howling monkeys around decide to sing for you!!!).

Everybody has been recommending for me to stay at El Panchan at Margarita & Ed's and I followed the recommendations and was not disappointed. It is really a great place to stay! The cabins are in the middle of the jungle, so you can breath and feel the jungle. The cabins are clean (not luxury) but clean! The showers where nice and the best part was the service, everyone was super friendly and helped us with anything that we wanted. The food at the restaurant is also very good, so I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND staying here!! There are other cabins at El Panchan and they all seemed very nice, so as long as you stay at El Panchan you will be OK!

We just rolled in from a 13 hour overnight bus trip back to Mexico City from Palenque in the Chiapas but before I go take a nap I would like to comment on the absolutely WONDERFUL stay that my wife and I had a Margarita's and Ed's in El Panchan in Palenque. Margarita is a lovely lady who does all her paperwork on the back of reused paper notes and usually does not take reservations but keeps her word. She was a pleasure to speak with in Spanish and in English and her cabanas were fantastic. In fact we stayed an extra night just because of her and her guesthouses. The first two nights we stayed the Opala room which was air conditioned and had plenty of hot water with great water pressure. The beds were super-comfortable with quality clean sheets with a very high thread count, not the grungy cheese clothe you get in some guest houses. The pillows were even quality pillows that supported your head throughout the night even for a hard sleeper like me. The cleaning staff was friendly and helpful and did a very thorough job on the rooms each day while we were away. All this for less than half the price of some of the places in the city. The last day we had an 8:00 p.m. bus so we moved into a cheaper bungalow with smaller beds and only a fan as we wanted a place to shower when we got back from hiking and to rest before dinner. Although it was bit smaller and more low budget my wife and I agreed that we could have been happy here the other nights that we stayed as it was cool due to the jungle shade and the fan was sufficient for me to take a nap in the day time.
Margarita and Ed's is located in El Panchan, a grouping of guest houses and with the ever popular Don Mucho's restaurant which cannot be beat in quality or service. Believe me we tried by going into town and eating at two different restaurants in the Canada area. DO NOT waste your time or cab fare. The first was a seafood restaurant and the appetizer was so horrible we left. It was a ceviche filled with what tasted like dish water. YUCK! We walked to the highly rated Tulipan hotel and tried to have dinner there. The service was fine and the food was HORRIBLE!! I am not a picky eater as you could easily see by my size but this place was horrible. The Filet Mignon was not a filet cut. The cooked the steak all the way through even though I asked for medium and smothered it in a horrible tasting mushroom gravy. My wife only had nachos and they were inedible and cold. Don Muchos has enough variety to sustain you for how many every day you are there, with live entertainment and good service. The only problem is that the restaurant drains their sewer into the nearby stream and there are a couple of points in which you might sit in the restaurant and get strong smell of sewer gas. That was pretty disgusting. Hopefully they will do the right thing and put in a proper sewer which is not difficult.

Room Tip: Margarita does not take reservations but she seemed like she might if you can assure her that you wi...

We couldn't have been happier with our stay here. We had been recommended to go by fellow travelers as a very affordable ($300pesos/night) and clean spot to stay while visiting Palenque. Room was large, shower was good, and Margarita is the perfect hostess. The howler monkeys made the ambiance complete - the perfect jungle hideaway. Ate every meal just up the path at Don Mucho's, which made killer pizza's and the pasta with shrimp, garlic and peppers was the best I've had in Mexico.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the property, as Don Mucho's rages late with music and fire shows.

Had a gorgeous room for only 300 pesos, it was spacious, backed onto the jungle and spotlessly clean. Margarita and the staff really lovely and helpful, would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms in the final building are gorgeous.
