“A country retreat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013

This is an excellent Country Hotel not far from Midhurst. It is a well appointed hotel with each bedroom individually decorated; ours had a large bath and power shower. Each room has an Apple TV that not only gives TV programmes but also movies. The hotel has extensive grounds where the delights of bowls, tennis and crocket can be tasted. There is also a Spa with an indoor pool and if the weather is good an outdoor pool as well. The dinning room is excellent with a good selection of meals freshly cocked. An ideal place to stay for a few days close to Chichester, Portsmouth and Southampton.

A beautiful surprise! Perfect for a quiet few days away. We were blessed with glorious weather so saw the place at its best. It may be a bit too quiet in the winter months? All the facilties are available to hotel guests (included in the price) and we made good use of the outdoor pool and par 3 golf course. We only saw two other people using the golf course during our three days there! The pool / spa / sports facilities also have a membership option so there were non-hotel guests using it but at no time did it feel overly busy. Breakfast was very nice and cooked to order with plenty of options. We didn't have dinner at the hotel (it seemed rather expensive) so cannot comment on that. All in all an excellent place to stay for a bit of pampering.

We have stayed at Park House many times in the past always without our children and it is a wonderful experience, lovely grounds, attentive service and cannot be faulted. However on this occasion we brought our children (6yrs and 9yrs) for what we envisaged would be a family treat. However despite advertising as a "family friendly" hotel, children are barely tolerated. We had booked in March for a weekend in July, the spa indoor pool had restricted hours of use for children but the outdoor pool was then open all day without restrictions. However we were informed on arrival that subsequent to our booking, the pool rules had changed and children are now forbidden from using the pool after 1.30pm everyday irrespective of whether you are a guest of the hotel. Despite our booking prior to these changes being made and it being the hottest weekend this year they did not allow our children to use the pool. Children are also not allowed to use the general Changing Rooms but families are assigned the disabled toilet, which is located through in the Spa Reception with no direct access to the pool. The Outdoor Pool area is only open to children from 8am til 1.30pm and there is an assigned room behind the bar for anyone with children to avoid allowing children to use the general facilities.
The hotel requests children to dine before 6pm in the dining room and before 7pm in the Conservatory but there aren't any other options other than your room if you want to dine later than this time. Given that the weather was 26 degrees we "negotiated" eating outside but this isn't a general option and if the weather is bad there isn't any provision. We booked lunch in advance for 12.30pm but decided in the morning to postpone until 1pm due to a late breakfast and our kids sleeping later but there was a reluctance to change it and we had to wait for confirmation of the 30 minute adjustment. I fully understand they are concerned about offering service however in the dining room in addition to our table of 4 there were only 2 other diners. As guests of the hotel with children the hotel needs offer more flexibility to be considered family friendly.

Basically its a lovely hotel for guests without children but if you want a stress-free weekend away with the kids where they are welcomed and accommodated I wouldn't recommend it.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review, I am sorry that the hotel wasn't a good fit for your families requirements.
We do welcome children, and offer a range of swimming times in the Spa as well use of the outdoor facilities. I can appreciate that on this occasion the times may not have been convenient to you. We do try and offer flexibility where possible, but we also have to make sure we are consistent with our service and policies. I do hope that despite this you had a comfortable stay with us.

Best Wishes

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing Park House once again for your break.
We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay, and were able to make use of our golf course and spa. The gardens are spectacular at the moment, all thanks to our wonderful head Gardener Rob Jolly and Lance Andrews our Head groundsman and their team. We will pass on your review to them.

With best wishes

To celebrate my partner's birthday, I decided that we would make a (surprise for her!) return visit to the Park House Hotel. We made our first visit earlier in the year in March, and were hoping that by June the weather would have improved somewhat - but with this great British summer, little was different! Not that this spoiled our enjoyment of this wonderful hotel, although it will be good one day to see it, and the surrounding beautiful countryside with the sun shining on it. Not being able to repeat our stay in Room 2 as before, (sentimental old fool!), we were directed to Room 16 in the separate South Down Cottage, and were far from disappointed. This suite contained an entrance hall, bathroom with both bath and shower, lounge with settee and TV, large bedroom with big double bed - yet another TV, and patio doors out onto a wonderful lawn and garden with table and chairs for enjoying both the views and the sunshine........... yes, I know, but if it had been shining we would have enjoyed it!
We made use of the excellent indoor pool and spa which was pleasantly quiet for a Saturday afternoon.
Our meal in the restaurant was as good as we had remembered from earlier in the year. Good choice of dishes across all courses, and it would be a fussy eater that didn't find something to tempt them, and all that we had was well cooked, presented and served. Breakfast the next morning very much the same, with a wide choice to set you up for the day.
This is a family run hotel - and it shows. Friendly, helpful, pleasant and professional does not say enough about everyone at Park House. Nothing was too much trouble, and we look forward to our third visit.

Room Tip: Difficult. Having stayed previously in Room in the main house, that is nice feeling to be part of th...

Dear Guest,

How lovely that you returned for a second stay with us, such a complement, thank you.
I am delighted that you were well looked after and that you had an enjoyable Birthday.
I am sorry the weather wasn't so good, The Sun has been shining brightly on us here in Sussex this past few weeks, so if you can find an excuse to visit us, then we would be delighted to welcome you back.

We stayed here as a last minute treat and what a fabulous treat it was. Imaculate decor and scrupulously clean and the pool and spa area were fantastic.

The staff on reception and in the dining room were helpful and friendly and it appeared that nothing would have ben too much effort for them to make your stay as enjoyable as it could have been despite the typical English weather.

We will certainly revisit. S&T

Room Tip: we stayed in a suite right next to the spa but everything was close by on this site.
