We stayed for a few nights at the Elsted Inn in October - the hosts were very welcoming and warm and the food was great - freshly made and very tasty! The Inn had a great and cozy ambiance and was frequented by the locals - a sign of its good service and good products. We will definitely come back.

Malcolm and Lisa made us very welcome at the Inn. The accommodation is very comfortable and they are so charming and helpful. Malcolm was very chilled about being woken at midnight because we had forgotten our key and even took us back to our wedding venue in the morning to pick up our car.Thank you to you both for making our stay special.

I stayed two nights at the Elsted Inn with my husband and friends in October. We went on fantastic walks around the Inn during the day and then enjoyed coming back and warming up by fireplace in the pub with a pint of cider. The owners offered to pick us up if we got lost, which was very thoughtful (although we thankfully did not need it on this trip). The rooms are tastefully simple and comfortable. In the morning, we were very pleased with the freshly made hot breakfasts and fantastic coffee! The hosts were warm and welcoming; we felt at home. We will try to make it back to the Elsted!

We met friends for lunch here and loved it, the owners were very friendly and the food was delicious. The warm atmosphere, log fire and comfy seats made it hard to leave and even our dog was made to feel welcome.

This inn is simple, lovely, and very welcoming. Malcom and Lisa go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your stay, but are also very professional and respectful of your space.

We booked 3 rooms for a walking weekend with friends. They were incredibly flexible about our arrival times, making sure to keep the kitchen open for us on Friday night. The food was so delicious, we cancelled our Saturday dinner reservations and ate there. Lisa, donning her pink chef coat, turned out lovely venison, sea bass, pumpkin gnocchi, pheasant, and all manner of locally sourced dishes.

The pub was full of locals on both nights, which creates a nice buzz on a wet autumn evening. Beers were excellent, wine list could be boosted a bit. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and huge with superb, locally-roasted coffee.

The rooms are simply and charmingly decorated. Comfy beds, nice linens, thick towels, and coffee in the room.

We went for a long walk on Saturday, and they offered to come pick us up if didn't make it back before dark - so kind.

Highly recommended, either for a quick stop or a country weekend. A very well done, relaxing spot run by a lovely couple who genuinely care.

Room Tip: If you stay on the first floor, there is a bit of creaking from the rooms above while guests settle...

stayed here as a stopover on our way home from Gatwick. Lovely quiet place with good food and good beer. Discovered this pub from a review in an old copy of the good beer guide and Malcolm is obviously very passionate about his choices of beer and their quality A little off the beaten track but well worth the effort. Had one of the best breakfasts ever

Finding food and service this good tucked away in such a beautiful rural setting is a special treat and one we'll seek out again. Lisa and Malcolm have struck a balance of informality while delivering extremely delicious, unfussy and top notch food focused on the best local ingredients. We have eaten here twice now and each time the simple menu has delivered delicious meals in a perfect English country pub setting. Lisa's chocolate deserts are something to behold. Definitely an address for your secret address book - and they have comfy rooms too if you want to make an evening of it.
We'll be back for a birthday party in November and are already looking forward to The Elsted Inn Beer & Folk Festival 2014!

Room Tip: We like room 3 with views out over the Downs.
