The title mostly covers this one. There is a lot of interaction with the animals, particularly the roos mind they are mostly asleep anyway. You get to stroke koalas, roos, wombats and whatever else they happen to bring along. Don't go here thinking you can hold the Koala's though as far as I was told that isn't going to happen anymore. This is definitely a great place to get close up to Australia wildlife. Enjoy.

If you are a visitor to Australia - you REALLY, really want to see a couple of animals, right?
a. Kangaroos
b. Koalas
You WILL not only SEE them at Caversham, but you can pet them, feed them, take your pictures RIGHT up with them. It was a GREAT experience for me and my children. Do NOT miss going to Caversham. I would recommend that you go as early as possible OR near sunset - because kangaroos are very, very docile (dare I say "lazy"?!) creatures who do not like to jump around in the heat. They also get very full after having tourists feed them all day -- so if you can get their early - before the heat and before they are all "chokkers" (full) -- you will enjoy it more.

That said -- I think it is also VERY cool that you can see OTHER interesting and important Aussie animals here, such as:
a. Tasmanian devils
b. Echidnas (ant eaters, with spines like a porcupine)
c. Kookaburras
d. Emus
e. Dingos
f. Wombats (you can even hold a wombat and get your picture taken)

I have been to several Australian zoos and rarely do you see Wombats, devils nor Echidnas that are MOVING -- I saw all three move and eat and such here at Caversham. Maybe it was a LUCKY, lucky day (it was winter -- and not too hot, plus we got there early in the day). But at zoos you often cannot see these animals out and about let alone doing something. I even saw THREE koalas (who never move...) walking around and eating leaves and such on the morning we went to Caversham. Amazing. Normally they just sit there all curled up like little, grey fur balls on the end of a stick.

Caversham also has a load of other birds as well as a few lizards (goannas). There is also a large farm animal portion (but you can see those in the USA where we live -- so we kind of skipped over that part).

Don't miss the CAMELS at the very back of the park. Camels are not indigenous to Australia - however, they do play an important part in the local history -- and best of all (for kids) you can RIDE the CAMELS! My kids thought this was one of the highlights of the whole trip to Australia. Go figure. ;-)

where else but in Caversham that you can pat a kangaroo, close up with a koala and sit next to a wombat or even maybe carry one in your arms.
Drive towards Midland from South Perth and follow the directions towards Swan Valley and there will directions to Caversham. Please take note that Caversham is in Whiteman Park. When you are in the park, just keep driving and you'll see Caversham.
Note that the farm show is at 11 am and 3 pm - milking cow, shearing the sheep and using the whip.
