“Very relaxing weekend”

Looking at the previous comments on Tripadvisor we reluctantly booked, we had relatives to visit in Bogo, and there are no better resorts in San Remigio/Medellin/Bogo. However, we had a very pleasant stay. Food was good and inexpensive, room was clean, wifi worked and staff was very helpful with all. For the price we paid we were very happy and can recommend Casa Del Mar to anybody, especially if they play golf or want to ride horses. Our kids loved the riding in the water, and they still talk about it.

The online advertised is convincing. The view of the beach is amazing & its greatly convincing of the customers but its very very dirty at the sea side. Food overpricing w/ service charge of 10%. Rooms very dirty, noisy aircons, terrace very dirty full of waste of the birds. Wifi is damaged cant use for the entire stay. Pool, showers are damage. Its very very remote area. In general no maintenance.

MEMO TO CASA DEL MAR GUESTS

APOLOGY
On behalf of the Owners we apologize to the Guests that had a disappointing experience in Casa del Mar.

NEW MANAGEMENT
During the last half-year Casa del Mar has been under negotiation and its now finalized. From April 1, 2013 a new, young and experienced Management is taking over the Resort.

GOLF COURSE REFURBISHMENT
The new management is dedicated to golfers and the golf course will be refurbished. Tee houses and toilets will be built, the road will be improved, new Golf Carts will be imported, the Turf Management will be adding new staff, an additional hole will extend the course to 6400 yards, improvements will be done to the Irrigation system and new mowers will be added to the Turf Equipment.

HOTEL UPGRADE
The Hotel will be modernized, flat screens placed in the rooms, new linen, authentic Korean food will be added to the menu, Karaoke, watersport facilities, Wi-Fi, etc. will also be upgraded. Most faucets, doors, curtains will be replaced. An additional indoor dining venue will be added for non-golfers.

NON-GOLFERS SUITES & ROOMS
The Suites on the Ground Floor will cater to non-golfers, families and Members and have a separate Reception and Guest care staff unit. Only the Ground Floor Suites and Rooms will be bookable On-Line.

GOLFERS ROOMS
The Bungalows, Second Floor and Penthouses will be reserved for Golf Packages and Golf groups. These rooms will have separate Guest care staff.

POLO & HORSES
A dozen horses will remain on the property and riders who want to learn or practice polo skills are welcome. Half the polo field will be maintained for Stick & Ball practice. The other half will be used for casual riding on the polo field and around the golf property. Swimming with horses will also be available. All horse activity must be booked the day before. Lessons are offered on weekends only.

Where do I start with my experience of this hotel????????
I decided to take a trip out of Cebu to a hotel by the beach and decided on Casa Del Mar Golf Resort.It looked good in photos.But that is as far as it got!Advertised to have golf,restaurant,non motorized watersports,pool,beach,cable tv wifi in public areas.
Where do I start?Firstly,arriving in the town of San Remigio,you then have to take a motorcycle about 6-7km just to get to the gate of the resort.Then,another 2km from the gate to the actual hotel.So,its far away from the town.So,effectively,you are trapped there unless you pay to take a motorcycle back to the town.
Upon arriving at our room,we found no tv,no internet connection,faulty fittings,no fridge.We asked to move and we were "upgraded" to another room which did have a fridge and tv,but still no internet connection.The tv worked,but no cable available,even though we counted 5 satelites within yards of our room.The plug in the sink was broken which kept the water in the sink.Twice we asked for it to be repaired before it overflowed.Again,some fittings not working.
The food is good,but seriously overpriced,probably double what you normally pay in any restaurant in Cebu.A small can of beer was three times the price of a supermarket.
When we enquired about possibly horse riding on the beach,we were told the horses were actually in Cebu,3hrs away by bus!!!Non motorized watersports consisted of one canoe,with no paddle/oar.Pool was small and clean most of the time.The beach,small as it was,was filthy.Plenty of staff around could have cleaned it quickly if they wanted to.Speaking of staff,not exactly friendly,and very lax in attitude.Service charge of 10% automatically included in everything which does not go to the staff,but directly to the owner.Golf expensive for the course condition.
Overall,would not recommend this hotel.Even the driver taking us back to the town said they get very little if any repeat business.I am not surprised!Even if it was free,and free transport from the town to the hotel,I would not stay here again!!

We went to Casa Del Mar with low expectations due to the very low price we paid for the rooms. But we were positively surprised, there were many golfers and many people on the beach. Rooms were big and clean, food was good and not expensive and one of the owners was there and offered us some riding and the kids loved swimming with the horses. Some renovation work was in progress but the workers did not disturb us. We had a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Choose a Suite, they have large terraces on the garden level facing the beach.

We stayed at the resort in Mid January 2013, and had a great time, the beach is out of this world and the staff so nice, the food was good and well presented. The rooms were well kept and clean and we had breakfast on our room veranda watching the kids play ball. If we had any criticism it would be the aircon was a little noisy at times but this was a minor discomfort. The main bad point would be it was hard to make contact with the resort by phone prior to going there, and the renovation work on the rooms and buildings was a little distracting.

After receiving no answer on the phone from the airport (countless calls between me and my cabdriver) I arrived (following a two and a half hour cab ride) to find that they didn't know I was coming because I never "called". After a half hour wait they threw me in a room that was air conditioned to sub-zero with no controls. The toilet was broken, there were no towels and the front desk wouldn't accept a credit card for deposits. The nearest (remote) village was a twenty minute drive away on a dirt road and they provided no shuttle nor were there any cabs.
I called Expedia the next morning and after reading them the riot act, they arranged for better accommodations.
A cab driver had to be called up from Cebu to pick me up. The desk assistant insisted that the fare was 3,000 pesos but wouldn't let me pay the driver directly or do the transaction in front of the front desk. It turned out he paid the driver 1,300 pesos and pocketed the rest. While I'm used to getting scammed here and there in a foreign country (it's part of the game) I take exception when it is from a resort hotel that I booked on a reputable website.
Oh and as far as the title of this review, the resort is located on an absolutely gorgeous piece of real estate that in the hands of anybody of competence would be a five star stay.

The location is not anywhere near the location purported on the map/website. The bathroom had broken tiles and rusting appliance, dirty sink, beds broken (think hammock), moth balls in the corners mixed in dead flies, used tissue and dust.
We were shown 3 other rooms: broken bathroom counter with rusting nails coming out of it, leaking AC, broken beds, terrible (and highly visible) mould on the walls. Food is very expensive and poor. We ordered roast chicken: we got a piece of chicken back. The manager was rude, it was untenable so we left and found appropriate accommodation elsewhere.
