“Weekend in the Lakeview Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2012

We have just returned from a weekend in the Lakeside Hotel at Elvedon. We booked the top floor (new style executive double) and for the extra few pounds seems it was well worth it! The room, on first impression smelt clean and fresh, there was a kettle with 2 cups and saucers, 2 wine glasses, a corkscrew, a Senseo coffee machine with coffee pods, and enough sachets of tea, coffee, sugar etc...we needed a bit more milk and housekeeping were more than happy to oblige, plus the cleaning lady remembered the next day, and left us more when she cleaned our room!

The bed was wonderful - not sure which room the previous reviewer was in who had to go home a day early due to an uncomfortable bed - lovely duvet and pillows, and clean white bedding.

The bathroom had a bath with thermostat tap - we did have to request engineering as the tap was running extremely hot water and wouldnt cool down! Within an hour of us logging a request, the engineers came and fixed the problem easily - a button had got stuck on the thermostat.

We had a lovely view of the lake, and could watch the ducks, moorhens, squirrels etc going about their business on the ground.

The village itself was fine, although navigating around small children on scooters was a little annoying, when parents obviously ignored the 'no scooter' signs clearly displayed at the village entrance.

We ate out at Rajinda Predesh the first evening - yes its a bit expensive, however, the food quality is fantastic, and presentation beautiful. The second evening we went to Hucks - typical American diner with music playing and a general hubbub of noise - but again, the food and service was fab. And the last evening was at Bella Italia...Oh wow, do not go to Elveden without eating here! It was the ultimate end to our break, with wonderful service, and food to die for! During the day we pleased ourselves, one time going to the Pancake House....the only place where the service was pretty unattentive, the food second rate and expensive...but we put it down to experience and moved on!

We had pre booked line dancing - something neither of us has done before! There were 8 in our class, and the instructor was really good - professional, friendly etc...we had a good laugh there! We also booked the Woodland Awakening walk with a ranger. This takes place at 8am with a walk around remote areas of the park, and information on the wildlife and trees etc around the area. This was really worth doing, and we would recommend this walk to anyone thinking of going....we were the only 2 on the walk, which is such a shame as so many people missed out on seeing different areas and wildlife.

All in all, we had a wonderful weekend, would definately recommend the hotel to anybody, and although a bit more expensive than your normal holiday camp thing, it is a great experience.

Just back from our third visit to Elveden. The villa was clean, well equipped and comfortable. We did not find the place too busy as several reviewers have suggested and we were able to easily book all that we wanted to do. The staff were to a man - and a woman - friendly and helpful. We went in the pool, played tennis, squash and went on the lake and ate in both Starbucks and in the Sports Bar and had excellent food and service in all. We took our own bikes and enjoyed cycling round the parc. For our family group of three adults - parents plus our 24 year old son, this is an ideal place for a short break or a longer stay - we love it.

This was our first time at Center Parcs, did not know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. The Staff, that we came in contact with, were pleasant and extremely helpful. If we choose to stay again, I would book the disabled lodge, as I need to use a wheelchair, and the space was a little awkward in the Woodland Villa that we stayed in. There is a mobility bus to get you around the site if required.

Although the hotel is very dated, the rooms are clean, spacious with good views of the lake.

However this is let down by the lack of clean towels along with the uncomfortable beds and pillows. The beds are like sleeping on slabs of cement and the pillows like rocks. Such a shame this let the whole trip down and meant we had to cut our break short by 1 night as unable to take another nights sleep on those beds. The floor is more comfortable!

I first went to Centre Parcs in November 1990 and had been a regular there until about 5 years ago when my children went to university. I now have grandchildren and we returned in March 2012. It is different but good. The staff were extremely helpful and the facilities are maintained well. It is a great place for a family and friends break.

Got back from our first visit to a Center Parcs at Elveden on Friday 16th March. The week was good as we got to spend some time with some good friends but wasn't overly impressed with the place. We went with our toddler and another couple and thier 2 children (2 & 4). We stayed in a forest lodge which was ok, modern decoration, flat screen tv etc. Also we were very lucky to be close to the Centre (Maple) and we didn't pay to reserve this area.

What we did like:
Choice of activities for older kids and adults is amazing despite cost, wildlife that came up to your back door (Rabbits, Birds, Squirrels, Deer, Ducks), very comfy beds, good choice of restaurants (not that we used many), nice kids pool, good supply of towels in the lodges

What we didn't like so much:
The need to book everything, Price of activities (£6.25 for a 30 min toddler paint and play with parents, £37 to use the spa with no treatment, £75 for us to have a bike each and child carriage for the back), pool was stupidly busy and trying to get a family changing room was impossible, Play areas need work the play area for 3-8 year olds had hardly any equipment in full working order, no free grass areas for kicking a ball around with kids (nettles on the ground outside lodges), Water shortage - there was a problem with the water supply so they gave us a 1.5 litre bottle for 7 people!, broken glass and plate in lodge on arrival, queue on the check out day to get your car get it parked and then get out Mondays and Fridays are very hectic!!!

All in all it was an ok week but far too expensive and we didn't like the free for all to get your car. We usually go outside of the UK for hols and although we wanted an break in the UK we think we'd probably rather go somewhere we are less structured with what we do, also where you get out and see the local life, Center Parcs just wasn't for us.

Room Tip: We had a room in the Maple section in a Forest Lodge (apparently recently renovated)
