We have just returned from a weekend in the Lakeside Hotel at Elvedon. We booked the top floor (new style executive double) and for the extra few pounds seems it was well worth it! The room, on first impression smelt clean and fresh, there was a kettle with 2 cups and saucers, 2 wine glasses, a corkscrew, a Senseo coffee machine with coffee pods, and enough sachets of tea, coffee, sugar etc...we needed a bit more milk and housekeeping were more than happy to oblige, plus the cleaning lady remembered the next day, and left us more when she cleaned our room!
The bed was wonderful - not sure which room the previous reviewer was in who had to go home a day early due to an uncomfortable bed - lovely duvet and pillows, and clean white bedding.
The bathroom had a bath with thermostat tap - we did have to request engineering as the tap was running extremely hot water and wouldnt cool down! Within an hour of us logging a request, the engineers came and fixed the problem easily - a button had got stuck on the thermostat.
We had a lovely view of the lake, and could watch the ducks, moorhens, squirrels etc going about their business on the ground.
The village itself was fine, although navigating around small children on scooters was a little annoying, when parents obviously ignored the 'no scooter' signs clearly displayed at the village entrance.
We ate out at Rajinda Predesh the first evening - yes its a bit expensive, however, the food quality is fantastic, and presentation beautiful. The second evening we went to Hucks - typical American diner with music playing and a general hubbub of noise - but again, the food and service was fab. And the last evening was at Bella Italia...Oh wow, do not go to Elveden without eating here! It was the ultimate end to our break, with wonderful service, and food to die for! During the day we pleased ourselves, one time going to the Pancake House....the only place where the service was pretty unattentive, the food second rate and expensive...but we put it down to experience and moved on!
We had pre booked line dancing - something neither of us has done before! There were 8 in our class, and the instructor was really good - professional, friendly etc...we had a good laugh there! We also booked the Woodland Awakening walk with a ranger. This takes place at 8am with a walk around remote areas of the park, and information on the wildlife and trees etc around the area. This was really worth doing, and we would recommend this walk to anyone thinking of going....we were the only 2 on the walk, which is such a shame as so many people missed out on seeing different areas and wildlife.
All in all, we had a wonderful weekend, would definately recommend the hotel to anybody, and although a bit more expensive than your normal holiday camp thing, it is a great experience.
