“The perfect tropical getaway!”
Reviewed October 14, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

My partner and our two young children have holidayed in Sri Lanka before and last time we stayed on the South Coast so we really didn't know anything about Kalpitya and the West Coast. All I can say is that we had an amazing few days. This part of the coast is a well kept secret and getting there is half the adventure. You pass through the dusty local village and see a slice of Sri Lanka that you wouldn't find in the guidebooks. Turning off the red dirt track into Khomba, you enter your own private oasis. The gardens around the house are huge and Sisera, who looks after the place obviously takes great pride in maintaining them, particularly the fish pond which attracts an amazing array of bird life. The kids ran wild and used the house cycles to run to the neighbouring hotel operators to use their pool . Staying in Khomba felt very private. They don’t call this the Wild West for nothing. No traffic, no noise and very little development. Just bird song to wake you up in the morning. The beach was very private with a lovely hut where we spent most of the day staring out over calm seas. Another plus was that the seas are very calm, great for the kids. The beach stretches for miles in either direction and it was breathtaking. The house was perfect. Super comfortable beds and huge airy bedrooms. With open windows we only needed the breeze from fans to keep cool at night and the kids slept on the huge seating space built into each room. Sisera and Indrani, his wife - who does all the cooking, were superb and incredibly attentive. If you want a seafood dinner, Sisera will hop on his bike and come back an hour later with a bag full of fresh crabs, lobster and prawns. Indrani is a fabulous cook. We ate Sri Lankan food every day and marvelled at the array of different curries that she produced from completely unrecognisable vegetables. I was hoping to lose weight this holiday but no such luck. The high point for the kids was going out dolphin watching. After 15 minutes we ran into a school of hundreds of leaping spinner dolphins which was truly amazing. Thank you Khomba for a memorable holiday, we hope to be back one day.

“Great private getaway”
Reviewed October 8, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

The perfect getaway with the family, friends or even solo. The rooms are luxurious, modern, very spacious, clean and homely, the staff is very accommodating.

The service staff is almost invisible, the sense of privacy is huge, making you feel at home. The attention is perfect and the food absolutely delicious. Many thanks to Indrani and Sisira. A highly recommended place for a relaxing

In fact everything one needed to make it a holiday to be repeated again and again. The lovely beach in front of the villa is ideal to relax your mind as well as body.

“A relaxing retreat with lots of potential”
Reviewed October 17, 2013 for a stay in October 2013

We have just returned from a 6 night stay at this fabulous villa. There were three adults and two kids (4 years old) in our group. We absolutely loved our stay. The house is stunning and the staff constantly went above and beyond to tend to our every need. The beach front location and the use of the other pools next door, ensured that our kids were kept entertained. The house is situated on an enormous plot which has been lovingly cared for and is constantly evolving. We felt that a swimming pool would make the house perfect as we would not need to leave. The food was delicious and we ate at the Bar Reef one evening and had a lovely meal, definitely recommend this. The open showers were fab and once we worked out how to get hot water in the master room we were happy. Our friend who stayed in the second bedroom wasn't as lucky but she found the cold showers refreshing. Our biggest drawback was the lack of AC. The evenings were unbearable. We would have had the generator on for longer but the ceiling fans didn't make a difference. The house really needs AC. We believe the house will have mains electricity connected next week which will be perfect. Then you will be able to get cool, refreshing drinks in the day. The house has two main bedroom and we felt that if there was a third bedroom made by converting the spare large off the master bedroom then you really could have more adults staying. We didn't feel the house could cope with many more people in the current layout as there are still only two bedrooms and bathrooms. The house is situated away from everything so for a truly relaxing escape we would definitely recommend it. The kids loved it and enjoyed exploring the grounds. We hope they seriously consider AC, a swimming pool and third bedroom/bathroom and we will DEFINITELY return with more family and friends. We also visited Willpattu national park and were lucky enough to see a leopard, sloth bear, crocodiles, an elephant and lots of wild birds. It was fabulous and definitely worth a trip out. We plan to vistpit next time during dolphin watching.

Thanks for your review. When you visited Khomba it was not connected to the national electricity grid, with all power coming from a generator like many private Villas. To preserve our 'eco' creds we didn't like to run it all day. However now we are connected with 3 phase - the ceiling fans in every room circulate a beautiful natural breeze plus there is no shortage anymore of cold drinks, ice, music and wi fi. It's a different place and we look forward to having you back.

“Bags of potential”
Reviewed July 26, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

We stayed in Khomba House at the start of a 3 week tour with our sons (11 and 9).

As it was out of season, we might well have gained a false impression of the location but as the only low point, it is worth mentioning first.

Its being situated in close proximity to a set of wind turbines was not really an issue, but the amount of detritus on the beach was. I assume that a closer eye is kept on this in high season - if it isn't, it will be an issue.

The accommodation itself is impressive. Two large separate bedrooms and generous amounts of living area split between the outside and the interior offer plenty of space. There is though no AC and I think that this would have to be an issue when the warmer weather kicks in. Conversely, the open air shower with no hot water might well be!

The staff comprises a husband and wife team who work hard to ensure you are well looked after. They really couldn't have done any more for us. Food is available at extra cost but the prices are very reasonable. The food is excellent even if the range on offer is limited.

A great low season venue, not so sure about it when peak season kicks in.

Really sorry this happened. We understand there was a massive monsoon flood in India and all of the rubbish eventually ended up on our golden shores. Between us and our neighbours we all know our beach is our greatest asset. We emply one fortunate individual to just work on maintaining the whole strip - no piece of rubbish is too small - but I should stress this was an exceptional event.

“An Experience to be repeated again and again!”

We have been home a week now after our holiday in Sri Lanka and everything is still so fresh in my mind. We had a totally amazing holiday and the biggest factor making this so, was Khomba House and the wonderful staff.

Indrani's cooking skills left us speechless. Every meal she produced was an extravaganza of colour and flavour and quantity but on our last night, which was also Robert's birthday, she excelled herself and she is so modest with it. In fact they all went to town to make it such a special evening. I was so overwhelmed by their generosity of spirit, it made me cry with gratitude.

Sisera, God bless him, is a total treasure, so pleasant, happiest when he helps you, gave us good advice on trip info and above all made Khomba House feel like being part of a family. After an overnight stay in Kandy, it felt like being home when we returned, they all seemed genuinely happy to see us back and equally we were pleased to be back.

We were all constantly amazed by how hard Guyan worked, he always seemed to be busy waiting table, watering the beautiful garden, making beds, lighting lamps, carrying beach hut mattresses to and fro, sweeping, and always with a happy smile.

And finally, a big thank you to you and yours for creating such a magnificent holiday villa which was very clean, very comfortable, very well staffed and very well equipped. In fact everything one needed to make it a holiday to be repeated again and again.

“Magical place, amazing food - paradise”

I just had to write to let you know what a wonderful time we had at Khomba House. All four of us agreed it was our best beach holiday ever and we have never been looked after as well as we were for our time in Sri Lanka. Sisera, Indrani and Gayan were an absolute delight and so helpful but completely unobtrusive.
The house itself is beautiful and the shower rooms are the best ever - shower by day in the sunshine or shower by night and watch the stars. One day we also had a little jumping frog that entertained us in our bathroom by jumping from the basin to the wall opposite and sticking on the wall.
The food was exceptional at all meals, how does Indrani do so many versions of vegetables with no repeats ! We were all amazed by her talent and by how much we could eat. Every meal was an eating experience and beautifully presented with Gayans military precision in laying the table and setting chairs etc.
Robert had his birthday while we were at Khomba House and it will be a birthday none of us will forget. Sisera helped us by producing wrapping paper, sellotape and glue for the presents, and the breakfast was unbelievable even by Indrani standards. In the evening we put on some music from my laptopn but Sisera and Gayan were not satisfied with that and produced speakers and amplifier and wired it up for us - voila music and dancing on the lawn under the stars - magical.
Everything we wanted to do was organised by Sisera and nothing was too much effort. You have a superb team working at the house.
Thank you for the most wonderful holiday, we are now wondering if your house in Italy has a similar set up ?
Kind Regards and many thanks
Marion Jukes
