“exceptionally high quality fixtures and fittings, peaceful and cozy.”
Reviewed March 4, 2017 for a stay in March 2015

Perfect base for exploring this area,, starting with close proximity to the South West Coast path. Visited many local attractions both near and further away during our stay. Walked down to the steam engine at Levant Mine, and on to Geevor, most interesting. Had enjoyable days out at Charlestown where they repair tall ships, Eden project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and many other places of interest. Always looked forward to our cozy cottage at the end of the day. An excellent and enjoyable week. Thank you Kelly and Lee for a lovely holiday.

“Great place to stay, not wanting for anything”
Reviewed June 4, 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Just stayed at Nineveh cottage. 6adults and an Irish setter. Cottage fully equipped and not needing for anything.

Great views and cottage in easy reach to most destinations. Gurnards Head serves really good food but would give North Inn a miss...

Will be returning to St Just again and hopefully Nineveh Cottage

“If you love walks, the sea, expansive views, wild Cornwall and cosy comfort, you'll love Nineveh.”

Niniveh cottage lived up to all the promise of the photographs on the website. The cottage is very spacious and its location is peaceful. Kelly's personal touches (a welcome box and vases of flowers) and her tasteful decor add to the cottage's charm. It is a short walk to the coast and the well equipped kitchen meant we could make the most of the wonderful fresh fish we purchased in Newlyn. The beds are huge and comfortable. The garden is lovely for having cream tea in (or an aperitif) and there is a special sheltered corner for enjoying the views towards the sea - and great sunsets.. It's also enclosed which was important as we have a small dog. The lane is manageable.

Liked best: Spacious, cosy, situation surrounded by fields and close to coast
Liked least: The lane has to be negotiated with care - it is very narrow

Couldn't have been happier at Nineveh cottage, the owner Kelly was so welcoming and took so much pride in the presentation of the cottage. The location was so peaceful and calming and the cottage was beautifully decorated and high spec. We especially liked the little basket of food goodies to get us going and the bunch of flowers. Being country folk ourselves and familiar with Cornish and Isle of Man roads, narrow lanes don't throw us, but if you're not comfortable with a track narrow enough to need to pull your mirrors in then I would take head of Kelly's comments about the track and if you want help getting down. Only wish we could've stayed longer than three nights!

I wasn’t going to dignify this review with a response BUT I think it needs to be dealt with especially as it was created in an attempt to sabotage my excellent rating status by this guest who behaved appallingly to both myself and my neighbours during his stay. His review is purposefully misleading and unfortunately this guest has fabricated issues in order to justify giving our cottage 3 stars out of 5.

Firstly I will deal with the bogus issues he has made regarding my cottage. He has made claims that both my sofas are “spent and seen better days", that he was unable to relax on them and read a book. Firstly I would like to address why this guest raved about the cottage for several days every time I saw him in the courtyard...it was great, it was very comfortable, one of the best he’s been to, couldn’t want for anything etc, etc, if it was not so. Secondly, my sofas are not spent, in fact the main large Italian leather sofa in the sitting room is sumptuous and soft, many of my guests have commented that it is one of the comfiest sofas they have ever come across in a holiday let. The secondary sofa in the dining room is surplus seating and is of a low design and the seat cushions, being fabric with a goose feather filling, should be plumped after periods of sitting. Both sofas were purchased from a prestigious furniture outlet, and I can only apologise if this guest didn’t find them comfortable enough, he is the only one so far who hasn't. With regards to the cleanliness of the fabric, forgive me, but I have very high standards!! Before every new guest arrives my leather seating is hot mopped and then wiped down with special leather wipes that both condition and add shine to the leather. The fabric sofa is hoovered with a brand new, bought this year, Dyson Animal Big Ball cylinder vacuum cleaner and is one of the best hoovers I have ever had. I leave this hoover plus adjoining gadgets for guests to use during their stay. Your comments about the velveteen fabric of this sofa being far from acceptable in cleanliness are unfounded and claiming that my hoover wasn’t up to the task of cleaning this sofa is a fabrication. What makes this more infuriating is the fact that you stayed at my property for two weeks and upon your arrival, after taking you through the house (where you praised every room highly), I told you, like I tell all my guests “if there is anything I can do for you or you are not happy with something then do let me know.” This is something you did not do even though I was on site for the entirety of your holiday. In fact in the several days at the start of your holiday, according to you, everything was excellent. At this juncture I would also like to point out that after your stay I found my rather expensive hoover absolutely jammed full of your dogs hair. The entire cylinder was so packed I had to prize out the dirt and hair with a metal skewer and take the hoover pipe apart in several places to remove more hair. You had far exceeded the fill line and thus would experience a lack of suction. I would have thought that common sense would tell you that a hoover does indeed lose suction if it is rammed full beyond capacity, and given that the cylinder is transparent it makes it all the more perplexing that you didn’t think to empty it!! Luckily you hadn’t permanently damaged it but it did take me a good half hour to rectify it before I could use it which had an adverse effect on my ability to clean the cottage on time for my next guests.

Secondly you mention that there was mould in the bathroom, interestingly something which you, yet again, failed to tell me at the time. There is certainly NO mould in my lovely bathroom, what you are talking about is a natural salting of the granite stone which occurs if you do not properly ventilate the room whilst bathing. Granite is a cold stone and hot steam on cold surfaces causes condensation, not damp, and this in turn causes salting. I hoover this off the walls, if it is present, prior to guests arriving. Given that you stayed for two weeks and I often saw the bathroom window steamed up and closed you probably saw salting occur.

Thirdly to say that there are better cottages in this price band is also misleading, you stayed somewhere else last year that was indeed cheaper but far more basic. What you also fail to tell people is that the quality of the linens, towels, equipment available, beds, extensive welcome pack etc etc is of the highest quality and far superior to other places, and given that you were 2 people staying in a cottage for 6 then understandably you paid a higher premium than if you stayed somewhere designed for 2.

Now we come to the real crux of this story, the part that will put your review into perspective. Several days into your “fantastic" holiday I find out that you have been coming over my neighbours field and not down the lane as instructed. I told you politely that you should not be using the field and that was that until later. When I came out to greet you after your outing, you immediately shared your dissatisfaction in rather an aggressive manner about not being allowed to go across the field. I told you that we did not have a legal right of way across my neighbours field and even though we enjoy a good relationship with them we did not have an agreement to do this and quite frankly your vehicle was suitable to come down the lane. My husbands vehicle, a Ford Mondeo Estate, is both longer and wider than your vehicle. When you asked if I would talk to the neighbours on your behalf I declined to do so as I know they do not like people going across their land because of the damage vehicles cause. You then said you would go and speak to them which I respectfully asked you not to do but you apparently ignored this. I was so upset by this incident that my husband who was working 300 miles away drove down to ensure I was ok and that such an incident didn’t take place again during the rest of your holiday! When I spoke to my neighbour to apologise for you trespassing on their land and to let them know how aggressive you had been I was informed that you had knocked on their door past 8.40pm the night before to argue your case on how you MUST be allowed to use their field. Given that they have a small child and the fact that you were bullying and harassing my neighbour on their doorstep we felt that your behaviour was both upsetting and unacceptable! You were STILL NOT granted access across the field but only a few days later you accosted my neighbour yet again making her stand in the pouring rain whilst arguing your case as to why she should let you over her field. Eventually she relented but this was NOT out of sympathy for you, she knew you had upset me and that you had made me feel very uncomfortable and she couldn’t take any more of you belligerent attitude. What makes this more frustrating is that you admitted to me that you knew what the lane was going to be like due to the photo online and the information provided to you prior to your stay but you just didn’t care, you wanted access across the field. I offered to take you up and down in my car, I offered to collect your shopping but nothing was good enough. I admit the lane can be daunting when you first arrive and it is a matter of personal perspective but I know what vehicles can come up and down - Sainsbury's delivery vehicles, transit vans, both domestic oil and gas delivery trucks come down etc and in the 6 years I have owned Nineveh I can count on 1 hand how many times I have met someone coming the other way. No, you saw a different access and decided to bully, harass and behave in a belligerent manner until you got your way.

To put the cherry on the cake, upon leaving you asked me for my email so that you could contact me directly because you loved the cottage and wanted to book for 4 weeks in 2017 and when would I be taking bookings for next year, strange attitude to have when you thought so much was wrong! So, with that in mind I find your review to be both misleading and duplicitous in nature and is an attempt to deflect any blame from yourself about your behaviour during your stay. I hope that the other gracious reviews are what future guests take notice of.
