“Wonderous and Wild in Whangapoua”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

If you are visiting Coromandel then do not miss Whangapoua. Only 5 minutes off the main road from Coromandel township to Whitianga. A small coastel township boasting a well equipped store run by two lovely people. Steve ad Dianne will have anything you need and a good helping of local advice. New Chums beach is a walk many undertake from the far left hand end of the beach too. The surf beach is awesome so too is the estuary at high tide especially for the young ones, great for a kayak, paddle board, surfing is also an option on a good swell. A lovely part of New Zealand indeed!,

“Worth the drive”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

This beach is really worth visiting, it's not that far from Whitianga but looks like paradise. Those photos you see in travel brochures of crystal clear waters meeting the white sands of the Pacific Islands is here in Whangapoua. There is not much shelter on the beach itself which is why some people might prefer to hike over to New Chums Beach which is 15 min walk around the cliff. If you're coming from out of town you're best to pack a chilly bin with supplies as the general store is a bit pricey.

“fabulous beach”
Reviewed December 6, 2013

The surf was up when we visited this beach. We enjoyed some of the best body surfing ever with no current to drag you out. The sand is a lovely and we only shared it with a handful of people. Great views of islands out to sea. One of the best beaches around without a doubt.

“The secret of Whangapoua Beach NZ”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

Whangapoua Beach is a popular surf beach with safe swimming. 19.5 km east of Coromandel Town. With a play park for the kids and a local general store for supplies there's everything you need for a great day out by the sea. White sands stretch over - with sheltered areas for rock fishing also great place for bike riding, jogging and walking in surrounding hills - magic area.

2.5 hours from Auckland by car, Ferry from Auckland to Coromandel 2 hours and also you can fly from Auckland which is 30 minutes

New Chums beach is the best kept secret it is an easy walk from Whangapoua beach - the Lonely Planet Guide which named it one of the top 20 must see beaches in New Zealand.

“Beautiful and unspoilt”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

One of the best beaches in the world because it's unspoilt and uncrowded. Only one quaint shop. Great fishing, surfing and swimming, rock pools, white sands, everything that pristine and well conserved
